Well obviously I don't mean all Christians and not those who simply don't participate. I am questioning those who agressively oppose things like Halloween.

Michelle- You are having a lot of difficulty with assumptions on my character and with reading comprehension. Key word:try. I am simply amused at some people's attempts at fighting against something as harmless as Halloween. Thought it might be a good conversation topic. It definitely doesn't affect my happiness.

The origins of Halloween are pretty meaningless as well. Whether it is harvest holiday or to honor the undead. Nobody celebrates Halloween now to honor the dead or the harvest. Maybe some do but they are in the vast minority. People do it to get dressed up and be silly for a day. Kids like candy and costumes. They aren't out sacrificing goats or worshiping goblins. They are bobbing for apples and saying, "trick or treat".

I am a Christian and I couldn't care less what you do for halloween.

I carved a pumpkin last year and decided that I should never do that again. (Not because it was against my religion, but because it was WAY too much work and cleaning the pumpkin was gross.)

There is a belief that it is an event closely tied to Satanic cults. If you look closely at Halloween, you will find that it is the New Years celebration for those who practice worship of Satan. While I realize that to most people it is just a day to do out and have some fun. There is, however, a very real link to the worship of Satan. A lot of evil is practiced on that day, that most people are either not aware of, or dismiss as non-sense. It really depends on your point of view. At one time, 30 some odd years ago, even Christians freely took part in the festivities. Then a real change came as people became more aware of what meant what, and now most churches will have as little to do with it as possible. I happen to agree with that, but many still wish to believe that we are being bores about it. That is their choice.

Because of the origin of Halloween. Even if Americans changed some things about Halloween it still started with the Celtics. The festival was held in honor of Samhain, the Celtic lord of the dead, who it was believed, allowed the souls of those who died in the preceding year to return home that evening. Festivities included building huge bonfires to chase away the witches and demons. Sacrifices of crops, animals and even humans were made to appease the souls of the deceased. They wore costumes made of animal heads and skins. Pope Gregory IV in 837 C.E. absorbed the customs of All Saints Day (Roman version) and with a few changes is still practiced today.

Because they're assholes. Plain and simple.

Anybody who tries to force any view, of any kind, on somebody else, is an idiot. You have to realize that the "Christians" who ***** and moan about stupid things like Halloween, and say it goes against their religion, are not real Christians at all. All those people are doing is using religion as a tool to manipulate the system.

Personally, I think we should have a holiday where we sucker punch assholes like that all day, but that's just wishful thinking, I suppose.

Because they can't think for themselves, and their radical preacher is against it because it is fun, and fun is a sin?

Seriously...it is a pagan celebration that the Catholic Church was unable to fully assimilate, much like the Pagan rite they did that came, I believe, from pre-Christian Gauls. We now know it as Christmas!

The early Church was known to create "Celebratory" days that fell on the same day as major religeous festivals of the tribal religeons on the outskirts of Rome, in order to make it more palatable for the pagans to become Christian.

Incidentally...the day after(?) All's Hallowed Eve is "All Saint's Day" on the Catholic (and some Protestant denominations as well) calendar.

Yeah, I'm a Christian but I love Halloween! It's one of my favorite holidays! I think that some people are too uptight....most people don't actually worship the devil on Halloween; people just go to parties and get candy. I don't see the harm in that! But people get touchy sometimes and ruin the fun (like at our middle school dance, we couldn't have a Halloween dance like the previous year, because it was "against people's beliefs". So we had a boring "fall" dance).

Halloween coincides with the Pagan ritual of Samhain, which is the celebration of the Dead and the Underworld which some christians believe to be of Satan.

It's a holiday to honor the undead. That's why. I just choose not to celebrate it. I have no right to ruin things that others believe in. I do get angry when I see people trying to take away my right to celebrate Christmas the way I see fit to.

Not all Christians don't allow their children to participate in Halloween...some just are more religious than others and don't think that their children should be involved in this holiday that portrays some costumes as demonic or sinful
