Doesn't have anything to do with voices and everything to do with men thinking it's "gay" (or at the very least, not "manly") to sing publicly or express interest in it.
Sing whatever you like, pursuing common interests is where you'll meet people you like.

haha... me being a man who can sing, it WAS an issue of pride, when i was younger, most ppl i used to hang around thought that singing was for gays and females... until they found out that i could do a lil something... that is, way later on...
coming out the closet (so to speak) with some female songs... (my voice was much higher then, but if i still had my range then... *sigh)
anyway, for some ppl it's also an issue of having an outlet...
in some areas, there might not be a place so readily accessible to sing, as far as practicing (if you still want to keep what you can do under wraps until you decide that you're ready to do so in front of ppl), or flat out singing...
for some of us guys, we are too egotistical to work with another, especially when thinking that someone within the group feels inferior to another, or taking away from one's "shine", and vice versa.
there are many things that i can speak of from personal experience....
and to speak of what you should do..... no one can ultimately tell you.... that's for you to decide.... whatever you feel comfortable with, once a blue moon taking a "calculated risk"

This is a REALLY tough one--it touches on an issue I'm having in getting volunteers for my music group(s) at church, one for which I still have insufficient data for a probable rationale. I'm a natural countertenor, yet occasionally pressed into service to fill in an undermanned tenor or baritone section (not that I mind; I relish such musical challenges and look for ways to tune my voice to meet them). I suspect that both pride and fear (alias lack of guts) may be factors.

because sadly if a guy sings in chorus , many people autonmatically assume they are gay. SO annoying, i happent o find guys with nice singing voices sexy as heck, but maybe that's just me...

coz, they're voices haven't broke yet and they want to wait until then.
but guys are great baritones =]
it depends on your voice, if u sing reeeeeeeeeeally low, then baritone would be great, if you sing reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally high - but for a man - then probs alto??
hope that helps =]
