why won't my head phones work on the DVD player in our 2006 Caravan...the sound won't change over to headphone

You shouldn't need to do any change over, the sound is there even if headsets are not plugged in. Just plug in another set and see if that fixes the problem. If so you have a bad set, if not then there is a problem at the headset jack.
