I love old shows like "I Love Lucy" and old movies such as "It's a Wonderful Life", "It's a Gift" (W.C. Fields), and of course all Marx Bros movies. Anyone else?

Also, what do you think about B & W classics which have been colorized? Personally, I think it's akin to altering a classic painting.

Ah, yes. "I Love Lucy" always has me laughing 'til my sides hurt. I always cry when watching "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Casablanca" (another good black and white film) The original "Twilight Zone" continues to fascinate and even terrify me at times. "Rebecca" is another good one. Without the special effects and color of today, actors had to, well, act. And act well! If the movie was going to be remotely interesting, that is.

On a personal note, the black and white format reminds me of those summer nights I used to spend at my grandparents' house as a child. I'd snuggle up on Mamaw's lap, Papaw would be sitting in his easy chair and we'd all watch those old movies. I developed a love for the classics that I will never lose. Movies don't need color or advanced special effects to be good or believable. I learned that a long time ago.

Edit: I find colorized classics interesting, but only for a little bit. In a way, it's nice to know that one actor has green eyes and this actress was wearing a blue dress, etc., but that's just a passing novelty. It would be similar to updating the Mona Lisa by repainting her in jeans and a tube top. Interesting, yeah, but no longer 'classic.' And, more attention is now being paid to details that don't matter. As the intended focus of the Mona Lisa is her face, the intended focus of black and white films is the plotline and acting. Give more of the focus to the background and that takes the focus away from the acting.

One of the other reasons old movies appeal to me is that when I watch them, I see the same thing that my grandparents saw when they were younger than me. When they are all long gone, I will be able to watch those movies and somehow reach back into the past and connect with them again. Colorize them and that's all lost. My grandparents never saw colorized movies when they were young. It's like a door linking me to the past being slammed shut and then painted over...in technocolor.

Yeah, I thought I was the only one who felt that. Funny, huh? I think it's from our childhood. We saw black & white growing up, depending on how old you are. So our memories of then comfort us with our parents.

Yes, I love it when they make NEW movies in black and white, also.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. It's like they are so layed back and cool (I was born in the 80's) . One of my favorites is: "What ever happened to Baby Jane".
