Vytorin 10-40 is made up of 10 milligrams of Ezetimibe and 40 milligrams of Simvastatin.
Simvastatin is a cholesterol lowering drug that works by inhibiting the action HMG Co A reductase ! This is an enzyme essential for making cholesterol in your liver.
Ezetimibe also reduces cholesterol but by blocking the reabsorption of it in your bowel.
10-40 is 10mg Ezetimibe and 40mg Simvastatin
10-80 is 10mg Ezetimibe and 80mg Simvastatin so you can see that is you take half a 10-80 you will be getting the right amount of Simvistatin but only half (5mg) of Ezetimibe.
This is why not to take half.

yes you can i asked my uncle whos a doctor. As long as its exactly half and its not a capsule, but a tablet.
