I am student getting ready to graduate with a major in IT and had a job interview today with a large company and all went well but for some reason they emailed tonight wanting a couple more professional refrences and also asked if they could contact my current boss and my college advisor. Yesterday they called my supervisor and he gave me a great refrence.

Does this mean that they are really thinking of giving me the position? I know they probably wouldn't go to all that time and trouble if they wasn't but I just really don't know what to make of it.

It's a good sign that the company is checking your references & asking for others.

Make sure the other people you list as references are comfortable w/ their contact information being given out and briefly describe the job to them.

Follow up w/ the company. Good luck!

Hiring is a big responsibility, and the employer would not be diligent if he didn't check out references. The only thing it means for you is that they didn't cross you off the list after your interview; you're still under consideration. If they call you back, that's another good sign. Be sure to thank them for their time regardless of the outcome. Good luck!

Yes, you got a very good chance that they are going to hire you. If all of your references say good thing about you then you get the job. No, they don't call references unless they want to hire you.

their first clue is asking you if they COULD call--and your saying yes was the right answer. The fact that you got an excellent reference all but assures you of the job. Good Luck.
