Maybe they are. Why not read the Bible to find out rather than taking their word for it?

Many Christians and non christians alike reference scripture out of context. The Bible is meant to be studied as a whole, that is why the whole was given. It is always important to look at not only the verses surrounding the quoted scripture, but also the chapter, the book, the author and and intended recipient, the date and the culture of the time, and most important what the scripture means in the context of the Bible (what does the rest of the Bible say on this same subject/issue). An accurate interpretation must fit into each of these areas. The Christian should rely on the Holy Spirit in interpretting Scripture, but the Holy Spirit will never contradict the written word of God. I would always go back and look at the context of quoted scripture. Some of the most quoted Scriptures today are taken entirely out of context.

When I answer a question on R&S I DO NOT take any scripture out of context. I have a Strong's Concordance, a Bible, and an on-line Bible in English and Spanish. I use that Bible to copy and paste because I can read it better than out of my own Bible with small print. I have been a Christian for over 30 years and know my Bible well. When one just take scriptures out of context you are not giving a correct answer. However, I question that even as I answer the question scripturally i have come to the conclusion that no one who is not a Christian takes the answer seriously. They only choose an answer that matches a previously decided opinion. I am asked for my opinion, no matter how harsh the answer may be, I don't make fun or scoff, mock or say anything in condemnation. If it sounds like that, it is only because the asker or reader feels self condemnation or guilt and it is easier, in their opinion, to just blow it off.

I would imagine that some do, and I would imagine some don't (post out of context.)

There is no one single behaviour all Christians do, any more than is true of any other believer or non-believer.

By the way, it isn't typically necessary to post the entire bible, since the bible consists of many different books, each of which have distinct chapters, stories, parables, psalms, etc. If an overarching passage is too long to post in its entirety, it usually doesn't need more than a sentence or two to provide the general context.

Context really is not a terribly difficult thing. Remember that grade school book report? You likely had to provide a little context then too - without retyping the book for your teacher.

IMO- If one chooses to 'paste' a Bible verse, one should be careful to include any preceeding or following verses, that clarify or give better insight into the chosen verses meaning.

To ask if the entire Bible should be posted is rather sarcastic, is it not? If the way a particular verse is being used is not in context with the way you see it, then perhaps YOU should post verses in support of your rebuttal, as it were.

PS-John 3:16 (a stand alone verse :)

I think that taking it out of context is like using part to make the message different. Like this statement. " Americans don't think about the consequences of polution.". Now if someone said "Americans don't think." it would be taking it out of context because it gives a different message. As long as they use enough of the bible verse that it still has the same message it isn't over kill. And by the way I don't actually think that statement is true it was just an example.

Respect the Bible, it is Holy. Take good care of it. Dont play it. Just read the content of it without taking out verses or copy-pasting or whatever if you do...you will be a blasphemer!

Not the entire Bible, although in some instances, the questions do require looooooooooong answers. I hate looking at a wall of text, and would never post a wall of text.

Any bible verse could be taken out of context. If you take anything and cut it down enough, you could get it to say anything you want.

Most people don't realize that its not what the bible says; but what it means that is important.

They may be taking it out of context, or they may not. Smart people read before and after a text to get context and avoid a pretext.

No, copying and pasting is NOT taking it out of context. It's when someone interprets it wrong that takes if out of context.
