the gauge needs to be 14g to match the jewelry

it should just be through a pinch of skin

I like the cannula needle for belly button but thats cuz it makes the piercing process easier for Us self piercers plus this page has "how to" pics

other than that get a regular sterilized 14g or 13g needle

You should not be doing this yourself unless you are trained to do so or if you have a kit. Belly-button piercing is serious stuff and very easy to get an infection. When done professionally, it takes 6 months to heal. If you are going to do it yourself though, you need a gaged needle that is large enough for the piece of jewelry that is going to go through it. Hope this helped!

First of all, I do NOT recommend piercing yourself! Especially with a body piercing. It is something that should only be done by a professional.

The pro's use a special needle, plus clamps to pull the skin, so that they can get the proper hole, not to mention, the piece of jewelry that's going to be used also. If you were to pierce yourself, there are so many things that could go wrong. First off, you can get scared, and start piercing the skin, break through one layer, then panic and you won't keep going. That in itself could lead to complications. Body piercings are done in a way that makes them as painless as possible, and allows them to be completed as quickly as possible. By doing it yourself, untrained, you are just asking for problems.

Stop being an idiot and asking stupid questions. Anyone with half a brain (I'm giving you credit here) knows that piercing their own navel is madness. For the sake of a few bucks just go and have it pierced professionally.

Piercing your own navel is not a good a idea. This is the sort of thing that should be done by a professional. Don't try this at home.

If you feel you absolutely must pierce your naval at least go to a professional to have it done. You could severely injure yourself trying to do it on your own.

You should use a 14G (14 gauge) piercing needle. You can buy them ready sterilized on eBay.

Ok, that's not the best way to go about getting a naval piercing. I know it's cheaper, but it's a lot more dangerous. Please have a professional do it.
