Before you decide on a path, you must first decide what you believe, how you wish to live your life (if you want to celebrate holidays - and what they should mean to you), what your definition of the divine is (gods and/or goddesses, or the 'One'), and above all, follow your heart. If it don't feel right, don't do it.

I'm not a Wiccan so I can't say it is or is not for you - that's for you to figure out on your own though research, talking to other people, etc etc. Wicca was a good stepping stone for me, so it is a very good place to start for one that has no knowledge of paganism.

Someone who is Wiccan would have a better answer for you of what exactly Wicca is, but it is basically the creation of a man named Gerald Gardner in the 1960's - which he bases a lot of the rituals and beliefs on much older earth religions, and nicely ties them into a more contemporary form of pagan religion.

Hmm, tis questionable that you say you want to be wiccan when you don't know what it is, it makes me wonder as to your motivations.

Once you enter the world of paganism, there's lots of different strains. Some wiccan believe in X and X gods and goddesses, other's believe only in the spirit of Earth. Most celebrate the solstices and equinox's (astrological phenomenon). Winter solstice is 3 days before Christmas, if memory serves, Halloween is Fall Equinox, Easter is Spring equinox, and I cannot for the life of me remember when summer solstice is.

Anyways, they have other names for those events, but those are the main wiccan holidays. Reason Christmas and Easter line up us because the Catholic church changed the holidays to match pagans, to get them to join in, and Halloween was created because of the wiccan holiday (you know, themed on being afraid of witches and stuff)

Personally, I recommend finding a nearby wiccan, or a coven would be even better. Usually www.meetups.com has a good number of wiccan or pagan groups.

You should read into it more before arbitrarily switching.

A major point, though... it's not a "religion," nor is it a belief of knowledge. It's a practice. Being wiccan means you Do things, with energy, and Wiccan usually use rituals and such.

Hun, we are all born with natural abilities and gifts. If you want to be wiccan, then you must educate yourself. You can find books on the subject at any good book store or even the library, if, that is, you live in a good sized town.

I suggest you go to talk city. Go in the chat room Mystical Gateway. It is the one I go to. The only chat room I use. There are good pagans there who can help you if you are curious. Wicca is a lifestyle. We pray and live our lives by the laws of nature. I will give you a link to the gateway. Also, there are many good pagans here in yahoo answers who could help you and give you advise.

You can also get a lot of information from about.com

Good luck to you child and blessed be.

Here are some websites to educate you about what Wicca is.

A relatively objective (non-Wiccan) set of articles on what Wiccans do and believe:

Another useful article:

http://www.religionfacts.com/neopaganism/paths/wicca.htm

A good site by Wiccans:

An explanation of the religion by a Wiccan:

If you're looking to do some reading, I'd recommend "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham, and "The Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton. I advise you to stay away from anything by Silver Ravenwolf, for reasons outlined in the following essay:

I'd do a bit of learning before you decide you want to be something you currently are not. Some authors I'd suggest for a wide spectrum of reading are:
Scott Cunningham
D. J. Conway
Patricia Telesco
Margot Adler
Silver Ravenwolf
Raymond Buckland
Take everything you read with a grain of salt, since religion is all about opinion, decide for yourself what you do or do not agree with. Good luck.

Prariecrow's answer, as always, is excellent.

I am a Wiccan, and it is assuredly a religion, no matter what "non-Wiccan Pagans " say.

First, think of yourself as a spiritual person and explore that first. Then, you may find you do not need a religion to be close to God/Goddess. Best of luck.

1. You dont know what it is
2. You dont know how to celebrate it

So educate yourself on it before you just want to convert or whatever, the whole idea is ridiculous
