I've been feeding my 6 months old dachshund Pedigree Puppy Formula, but he does wag his tails, get happy, or has a healthy appetite, he just eats because he is hungry, I've tried science diet, purina puppy chow, purina ONE, and Iams, none worked, what should I add to my puppy's food to make it more yummy???

yes, like most people said already, if he's finishing his food, don't start adding stuff to it!

but what you can do is stop feeding him pedigree and switch him over to a higher quality kibble.
the ones mentioned above [ from silkysmooth] are all good choices including:

- innova evo
- california natural
- wysong
- orijen
- timberwolf
- artemis
- evangers
- nature's logic
- nature's variety
- petcurean GO natural

good luck with your new pup!!!

What exactly are you saying? Generally, people and animals eat because they're hungry. That is the reason for eating.

If your dog is eating all his food, that is good and you don't need to do anything else. Don't start adding things to make it all 'yummy' because then your dog will want more and more - and no doubt you'll give it to him - and then you'll have a very fat and unhealthy dog. It's OK while he's a puppy, but I'd get him off the Pedigree Chum when he's an adult because it's second only to Bakers for making dogs fat.

I repeat: so long as he's eating his food, all is well. If you start adding cottage cheese or gravy or whatever - well let me tell you, a fat dog is not a happy dog.

Look for something with minimal by-products in it. Talk to the people who work in the pet store or a vets office. There are also breed specific foods for dogs out there. Royal cainin, Nutrience, Eukanuba, and Ultra are all really good. Stay away from Ol'Roy and No name brands. There are medium grade brands like pedigree and iams and dog chow, they aren't great but they aren't bad. I think people have become too obsessed with what to feed dogs...they are dogs...they eat poop.....I have had many dogs live for 12 plus years waiting things like pedigree. What ever makes your puppy happy and keeps him healthy is what you should feed him

Try wet food that has plenty of nutrients in it as he is still young! but I wouldn't suggest feeding it to him on a daily basis as dry food is much better for them but a treat like that every few days will make sure he is eatting enough to stay healthy but still getting the proper nutrients he needs. Hope it helps.

My mini dachshund was the same way...she wouldn't finish her food. But now that she is older....it seemed to change around a year of age...she loves to eat and finishes her food every time she is fed. I think your dog will be fine....she will eat when she knows her body needs it.

Try a better quality food.
All the foods you listed, are not consired "quality" food.
Stay away from things you can get at Wal-Mart or the grocery store

Try foods like:
- Eagle Pack
- Innova
- Merricks
- Solid Gold
- Candiae

My vet always suggests adding unsalted green beans to their food. It has no fat and makes for a yummy snack. Also boiled chicken works well and is gentle on dog stomachs. I would switch to maybe a more natural food, such as Wellness, as it seems to appeal to them more .. atleast it did for my dog!

cottage cheese is a great yummy treat for dogs and its nice b/c you can mix it throughout the entire dry food easily. Hard boiled eggs are also great as a add in..............somedays if you have leftovers or something that would work also, maybe like leftover chopped up steak, now you can also add in wet food to the dry food if you find a flavor or brand the dog likes.

there is IAMS gravy sauce, sometimes i crunch up a treat into tiny pieces...the gravy sauce usually works very well with dogs though. Also, im not sure if this would add flavor, but there are vitamins to crunch into your dogs food to make sure he/she is getting the proper nutrients and protiens
