What Tom said, but you don't want to see any of the barrel...just the bead on your target, this applies to shotguns with only a bead, not with a peep sight & a bead; and allways squeeze the trigger gently.

Most people think that little bead on a shotgun is a front sight. It is not.
It is just put there to make you feel good. For instance. If your buddy has a shotgun and it has a bead on the front of the barrel and your shotgun does not have one, you would feel bad. So you would write to the shotgun manufacture and tell them that your shotgun doesn't have a bead on it. So they would send you a bead. Then you would feel good.
Keep your eye on the target, bird, clay pigeon, or guy running with one of your water melons in his arms.
You do not aim a shotgun, you point it and swing through your target. If the shotgun stock fits you you will hit where you are looking most every time. Unless you stop your swing or jerk your trigger to pull yourself off target.

Are you shooting moving targets - ie. clays, birds, etc.? If yes...
Forget the bead. The beads are useless beyond making sure you don't have the gun canted when you mount it. You aim a rifle, you point a shotgun - in other words, forget the "sights" on a shotgun if you're shooting moving targets.
Keep your head on the stock, eye on the target, move the gun to the target, pull the trigger (its a shotgun, it doesn't care if you squeeze it or slap it, just make it go bang when you're in front of the target- I slap), and follow through on your swing. Its putting a 3 foot wide tubular pattern of shot out there...no need to aim or "squeeze the trigger gently".
Trying to "aim" a shotgun with beads is futile and will not prove any worthwhile results. Point it at the target, keep the gun moving, and pull the trigger. You're throwing a pattern of shot out there - there is no need for rifle-like accuracy. Just look at the target and swing, smoothly and just enough to get ahead of the target.

Shoot with both eyes open.* Slap the trigger not squeeze it.* Use the bead as a reference point in relation to what you are shooting at whether its running or flying.* You swing or follow threw beyond your target as you keep the firearm swinging in continuous fluid motion.* Similar to swinging a baseball bat at a baseball.*

be sure to hold the bead on the target, and besure that you can still see a little of the target, or you'll get most of your pattern above the target. Don't see any rib between beads. it's the flat between the beads. well the person above,vdrive, pretty much said it all. you need to do that. Follow through, and pattern your gun to see where it shoots.

basically the same idea as the front site on a rifle barrel. Just hold the bead on the target.

If you hold the bead on the target, you will miss behind it every time. Focus on your target and aim ahead of it, depending on distance, wind, speed of the bird, shot size, choke, etc...
And follow through with the barrel... Don't stop when you squeeze the trigger.
