You can't equate being healthy with the number on the scale. There are MANY thin people in this world who suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other problems that we often associate with weight issues--just because you're thin, does not make you immune to these sorts of problems. I've seen a thin, seemingly healthy woman get her body fat percentage checked and have it be higher than another woman of the same height and 50 pounds heavier that appears to be "fat" to some people. Ever heard the term "skinny fat"? Well, in that situation -- the thin woman is considered "a skinny-fat person."
So, my answer is not a direct one. It just all depends on how much actual fat you have (even fat that surrounds vital organs), and how much lean muscle you have. Looks can be very, very deceiving sometimes.

Skinny folks can be really out of s hape. Fat people can be in great shape. It's all about muscle mass and body fat or BMI. There are several good calculators on the web and some health and fitness clubs have the tools to take accurate measurements. Also, depending on your age, within a year or two you can fill out, develop through the chest, hips, etc, whether male or female. Look at actors and actresses in their 20's who are now in their 30s and 40's, Like Demi Moore and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and George Clooney even Swartzenegger. They have filled out, not necessarily gotten fat. Plus if they work out they have developed more muscle definition. The goal is healthy, not a number on a scale.

I think they both have their risks. As a skinny person I'm going to vote for the chunky monkeys :)
I know that they're are health risks in being overweight but I'm not aware as to what they are so I can only unveil my side of the health perspective.
A few weeks go I went to an alternative medicine doctor to find out how to get off of my anxiety medicine (Xanax), which by the way is extremely addictive, and has withdraw symptoms that have been comparable to those of heroin. She told me that I don't have Social Anxiety Disorder, I just don't eat right.
At first I was offended until she explained: When you don't eat the correctly foods or enough food (every 2 hours) your body is at risk of using your adrenalin to keep itself going. Leaving you raw at the end of your day. This is not healthy and can bring on Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, OCD, Hypertension, Mood problems, and lots of other health risks especially those of the "behavioral type".
You don't see too many overweight people who are depressed, unhappy or suffer from a lot of behavioral disorders. Most of my friends who are overweight are hilarious, happy, and incredibly fun people to be around. The only anxiety issues I can see them having is fitting themselves into our (sickly) judgmental society if that's even a concern of theirs??
In overweight people they have higher serotonin levels. Most lose-weight pills do what they can to reduce these levels (BAD). Us people who do not eat correctly have very low serotonin levels. These levels are produced by the correct proteins and carbohydrates in our daily diet.
Us skinny people who either don't eat enough or just have a high metabolism, via genetics, use up adrenalin when we should be running off of the fuel of what we eat throughout the day that produces: Serotonin, Tryptophan, 5-HTP, GABA, Omega-3, your B vitamins, and probably a laundry list of other things that help our bodies produce energy. Lack of these vitamins and minerals forces our body to supply its "back-up fuel".
There are many fatty amino acids that give our body great nourishment and w/o this nourishment our brains don't function correctly, believe it or not, causing our bodies to react "incorrectly" in certain situations. Thus creating all of the things our government likes to put the word "disorder" or "disease" on - which is an issue all within itself.
Like I said, I can only speak from the skinny kid point of view, but I can tell you that w/o proper diet and exercise our body's may be "poster boy" material, but that's a shame knowing exactly how unhealthy we really feel on a daily basis.
Hope this helps!!

Skinny is definitely healthier, as long as the person does not have an eating disorder. Being overweight is so bad for you in many ways (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, the list goes on) but being thin is fine as long as you eat enough to get the proper nutrition, some people are naturally skinny.

Well, fat is healthy no matter what. It's not good to have excess meat on your bones.
Skinny is healthier, becuase some people just can't help be skinny.
Also, some people are athletic and excercise constantly, so they have virtually no fat.
But on the other hand, being skinny from anorexia/bulimia is extremely unhealthy and deady, so if a person is skinny from that then being fat is healthier.
So as long as no eating disorders are involved, being skinny is healthier.

to be honest i think being skinny is better
because it is much easier to gain weight than lose weight
Everyone has a different type of body and thats normal
BUT when ur body size becomes a health hazard
its time to forget everything and gain or lose weight
so if ur genetically skinny but still maintain a decently healthy diet
then ur fine
if ur weight is under what is normal for ur body to function properly
then no it is not fine
thanks for the question
and i hope that helped=]

no wonder you get heckled at, you think being underweight is a "lucky" thing. you don't just get it from genetics, you can develop eating disorders. and if you think "fat" people don't get heckled at for being "fat", you are so wrong. haven't you ever heard of some larger people who go home and cry and cry because people look at them funny and whisper behind their backs, calling them fat? they get a lot more crap than you do, you're not looking at both sides of your argument.
and to answer your question, it's healthy to be in between.

Fat. Fat was considered the feminine ideal for most of history, and having extra padding isn't half so bad for you as being anorexic. People are supposed to have fat, especially women!!

Neither is healthy.
However, I do know that it is generally considered worse for your health to be underweight than to be slightly overweight (notice I didn't say obese). I don't know the reasons why, but this is what doctors claim. You can research it for yourself if you want.
