If I remember right, the surgery, including the lymph node biopsy, took about 2 hours. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights after that.

I had my mastectomy done as an outpatient at an outpatient clinic with a chest expander put in to start breast reconstruction. I was in by 9 and out before noon. I don't recommend this way of doing medicine. I think that I should have been in a hospital and at least stayed over night. The pressure to make it short and sweet is not in the best interest of the patient. I'm not saying there isn't a place for outpatient surgery, but what I had was way out of line for outpatient surgery at a free standing clinic.

I went in in the afternoon and stayed overnight and was out the next day early on Thanksgiving day.
