Well I'm not an expert in fitness AT ALL, but I think if you want leaner, toned muscles, you lift lighter weights at higher reps, and if you want to be bulkier, or have muscles with more mass, you lift heavier weights at fewer reps.

I think you're asking about the amount of reps you should do. They've done studies on this. What's the right amount of reps to do for an exercise? And as of now, they've come up with 6 as the standard for reps of an exercise.

Any more than this, you're in that area of the law of diminishing returns which means for the extra effort and time you're putting in just isn't worth the amount of strength you'll gain. And any less, like if you're only doing 2 reps, you're just at risk for injury because you'll have to lift so much in those 2 reps.

Find a weight you can do sets of 6 reps with. It should be challenging, but not impossible. You'll gain strength, size, and some muscle endurance.

Both are equal in what they accomplish.
Lifting a lot of weight a few times builds bulk.
Lifting a little weight repeatedly builds definition.
Definition is what you call that cut look.

well that depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

If you are trying to build muscle mass - more weight fewer reps, maybe 5-7 reps, 1or 2 times

If you are trying to just stay or get in shape - choose a weight that you can do about 10 reps, 3 or 4 times.

it all depends on your goal, if your looking to get big a lot of weight a few reps, lean muscle requires a lot of rep with low weight i suggest lean muscle

Tone muscles = little over a period of time

Muscal mass = lots over a short time
