PHOENIX (AP) -- When Adan Pineda Doval crashed an SUV dangerously overloaded with illegal immigrants in southern Arizona last year, 10 people died.

Now Doval, the suspected smuggler, could spend the rest of his life in prison. Now Doval, the suspected smuggler, could spend the rest of his life in prison. After just an hour of deliberation, a federal grand jury on Thursday found the 21-year-old guilty of 10 counts of transportation of illegal immigrants resulting in death, among other charges, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix announced Friday.
The conviction brings no closure to the Rev. Robin Hoover, president of Humane Borders, an Arizona group that maintains dozens of desert water stations for border-crossers.

"It's a lot of lost life all the way around to be lamented," he said. "It's the natural result for our system, but the system's broken."

He said immigration enforcement has pushed border crossers to more remote, dangerous parts of the desert and has caused smugglers and their cargo to act more recklessly.

"We shouldn't be in an environment where we're throwing spikes under tires," he said. "We don't need to be in a situation where someone has to spend their life in prison ... All 10 of those people should have been able to pursue their life dreams."

He is just as bad as another Reverend I could mention. They broke the law. The US has immigration guidelines. They could pay the 3 to 4 grand to get here illegally, they can pay to get here legally by following the guidelines. She was a smuggler. Smugglers are "inhumane". I saw this and it still irks me.

I guess I take it a different way than you have. I don't think he's defending the ACTION that led to the deaths but rather the circumstances that led to a desperate act.

Reading a persons viewpoint is often hard to discern because we read things and absorb them with our mindsets at the time. That's why so many people argue on here. It's very hard to get a point across to ALL people with the written word. So I'll not discount your take on this article either. I might be wrong in MY interpretation of it.

Reading the full article, it's clear that the context of Hoover's remarks are not in defense of the driver but against immigration policies that created the situation.
