Ok, I have a 1987 Dodge D150 with a 3 sp transmission and a 318 V8. I would like to know if I can upgrade to a 5 speed automatic Trans. Also what size would I need?

Go with a gear vendors overdrive. It will take your 3 speed automatic and make it a 6 speed automatic.

dodge has a 4 speed transmission with lock up converter on it,but no actual 5 speed for that truck, and to upgrade to it you,d need the computer so it would shift right ,you cant actually swap those two transmissions out and get them to work right, good luck with it.

in case you propose via "usual" transmission fluid you used Dexron, it somewhat is the incorrect fluid. Chrysler products use ATF+ 4. No different types are cautioned. To get each and every of the old fluid out will require a flush, or replace the fluid approximately thrice, 0.33 time with a clean filter out.

I am not aware of a five speed for a Dodge, but there are 4 speed autos available. A500 is one model that is not computer controlled, and even computer controlled models can be converted.

You are in for a rude awakening if you want to persue this venture first the computer will have to be mated to the engine, purchasing the tranny, not to mention if the trannies are the same length reallistically you would be opening a very big can of worms
