Actually, you do not have to pay money to get a government grant because you can access the grant applications on your own without using another site. Any website with .gov in it means that it is an official government website. I will include the official government web pages to locate grants. However, it is not as easy as the government commercials or websites make it out to get one.

Never pay money for grant or scholarship searches.

State and Federal grants are available for you to go to school free of cost. You just go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and fill out the form. Tell them which university you are going to, and the school will receive the report from fafsa. The school will send you a financial aid package and automatically tell you which grants you qualify for and how much you get from each.

And say that you plan to live on campus even if you're going to live at home. Your costs are calculated as being higher, so they'll award you more money.

You should never pay money to file your FAFSA for federal education grants (if that is what you are referring to). After all, it's in the title! FREE Application for Federal Student Aid!

A lot of students accidentally go to www.fafsa.com. The government website is actually www.fafsa.ed.gov. This is the official site where you can file your FAFSA for free.

Always pay attending to the ending indicator of a URL. Site that end in .com (which stands for "commercial") or usually for-profit sites. Any site that ends in .gov (which stands for "government" is an official state or federal government site. When applying for aid use www.fafsa.ed.gov and when searching for information regarding aid look for sites that end in .gov or even .org to be sure they are legitimate.

DO NOT pay a dime to find out which government grants you may be eligible for. Every year I apply (or reapply after the first year's original application) on fafsa.gov. Anyone who is trying to get money from you to tell you which govt grants you can get is scamming you! The information is FREE from our federal government!
