my sister is doing a science project for her 7th grade science class. she's set on doing a project on how a plant set horizontally on the counter will still grow vertically towards the sun. she only has a month to do the project-
what kind of plant would grow fast enough so there would be visible progress in a little less than a month?
Any ideas on how to improve this project are wonderful, too.

Arabidopsis goes from seed to seed in 28 days. They're grown under lab conditions- not outside. 24 Hours of artificial grow lights is not a problem... But generally a short "night" period is used. Put a few seeds in a small pot and place under a grow lamp, keep watered.

Also known as "Fast plants," they're what come in NASA produced class experiment kits.

If you are interested, look up the work of Dr. Meinke at OSU- he's done a lot of research on the genome.

beans are pretty fast growers. Just get any beans like pinto and you don't even need to cover them with soil and they will grow a lot in one month.
