i know people who enlisted in the army, and went to basic training the summer before their senior year, then after graduation, they went to AIT. pretty good deal, i think its a reserves thing because no one i know on active duty did it.

also, i think you do your drills during your senior year, so you are getting a pay check too while you are at it.. pretty cool.

as for guns, yea... state laws dictate.. im pretty sure the min age is 18 tho.

To buy a gun from an FFL dealer:
18 for rifles/shotguns and ammo for them
21 for handguns and ammo for them
This is a federal law, applies to all 50 states.
You can join the military at 17 with parent's permission, otherwise 18.

Rifle purchase: 18
Pistol purchase: 21
Joining military
with parental consent: 17
without: 18

Note: Once you join the military, you will be issued a rifle and probably, at some point before you reach 21, a pistol. I'm 19, and just turned in my pistol before I came home. I still have my holster. Even with all this, I can't buy a pistol to have at home.

For the gun purchase, it depends on your state laws. For military enlistment, you can enlist at 18 on your own, or at 17 with your parents' consent.

For gun purchases, also depends if it's a shotgun, rifle, or handgun. In Texas, you have to be 18 for shotgun or rifle and 21 for handgun.
