I'm a Muslim woman in Texas!!! (Originally from Chicago). Terry is right we are ALL OVER!
I think the first Muslims that came to Texas were Arabs that worked with the Oil industry and or they went to University over here. A bet a lot came for the climate too although I personally think it is too hot.
There are I believe 300,000 in the Houston area and 100,000 in the DFW area. Plus more scattered throughout the state.
Oh, and about what Mary said, the only "sales vampires" I see around here are "whities". :P

Colorado and Texas are not technically Southern states. I do remember back in Tennessee, where I'm from, there's quite a large Kurdish and Shia Iraqi community in both Oak Ridge (right outside Knoxville) and in Nashville as well. In fact, some of the absentee voters for the recent Iraqi elections (after the ousting of Saddam of course) took place in Nashville. I think it was one of seven polling stations in the US, could be wrong on the number.

There are a little over two million Muslims in the USA and they're pretty evenly distributed over the country, with a slight majority concentration in the lower Mid-western states. And almost none of them are terrorists, if that's what you're driving at.

Yes, The largest concentration of muslims is in Detroit.
But there was an article written that made everyone laugh but it is so true. quote from that article; "If they make all the muslims go back to Iraq their will not be any doctors in Texas or Oklahoma" Every doctor has a muslim name.

Only at the malls, selling stuff from kiosks. We call them "sales vampires," because they catch you as you walk by and won't let you go, and don't take 'no' for an answer. I have trained my kids to say "Please MOM! I have got to go to the bathroom NOW!" whenever I am caught by a sales vampire. Even then, they don't want me to leave without $60 worth of hand lotion or a scalp massaging tool.
