Like movie stares do rich people always talk about how much they are worth or always buy expensive things for themselves. Someone told me that most wealthy people don't brag about what they have but live modestly. Is this a true statement?

I never knew a rich person who lived in a style i would call modest..but yes, the really rich, the born rich don't make a fuss about their wealth.why should they? to them it is a normal state of being and no more worth discussing than that they have fair hair or grey eyes. What makes some of them seem to be living modestly is that a really rich man will wear a twenty year old suit without thinking it at all strange and his wife will own a tweed jacket that she has been wearing since tweed was fashionable...But then, a poor man, and even a reasonably well off one, could never afford the sort of suit that will still be comfortable and well-tailored in twenty years..he will have a new suit every year or even more often and end up paying more because he never had the total sum all at once! The same goes for the tweed jacket..once upon a time it cost a small fortune and was hand tailored from hand woven tweed!

People with money don't talk about money. They live according to their means like everyone else, they just have more. Is this a problem for you? When someone has worked hard to make their way and has been successful at it, it is the American Dream. We all have that availablity. Work hard and achieve. When you have money, you might also be a coupon clipper, so what? There is no difference there. But you may also be able to buy a Bentley. So what? When you have worked to get it, you deserve what you can afford. When you can afford to buy Escada why is it an issue for those who can't? If you want it go for it and make the money why should that be an issue?. Money doesn't change everyone, only some. It's usually the Noveau Riche and not the ones that come from money that have these issues. A poor person out of the ghetto who gets to be a ball player is the one who flaunts and loses. Someone with a background of money and culture does not. They just live the life they were given. Just like everyone else.

Yo doubleT
I have a wide circle of friends and acquaintances -- know folks that are work-a-day people and people who are richer than the Cox's Bankers !!
And, even though there are every kind of persons in the world
it has always been interesting to ME that most of the people that you see "flashing" money around -- are, simply put, NOT that well off in comparison to people who are TRULY wealthy !! Now, don't get me wrong here -- they MAY be people with "means" -- but, most of the time -- it takes a great deal of that "means" to promote and display the "image" they project !!
I know some people who are insanely rich --- at least in the 60 to 100 million dollar realm !! They are almost to the person -- people who live WELL -- but, very much "under the radar"---- One of them told me some time back (this dude is worth some 65 million bucks) that "no matter how well off you are -- there is someone who can buy and sell you before breakfast" --- meaning --- it is ALL quite "relative" and one can't get too "uppity" about things !! You could be sitting next to this guy on an all night plane flight to Asia and never suspect him of having more than YOU !!

Is a true statement. Most I have known, lived quiet lives in modest means. Of course they were old, so perhaps a different generation, but to look at them, you had no clue they had money, till someone told you.

Most live a nice comfortable life quietly.
Some morons dont and teach their kids to be little brats that grow up to be big brats! Now that I am older , I see those little brats and feel sorry for them. My opinion.
Bragging always bites you in the a$$ later in life, so watch how you treat others.

There used to be a little old man named Charlie who sold news papers outside the store where I used to work, he looked like he'd had a hard life and his clothes were filthy and holey, he used to sleep rough in the scrapyard sometimes too.
When he died they found that he was worth half a million quid and he left it all to various animal charities....

Most do live modestly, and I have found that people that know how much that they are worth, aren't worth much!
