For instance, let's say you can convince yourself deep in your heart that you are destined for truly great things. Is that enough to make it true?

Believing that something is true just because you believe it to be true is delusional. We do not live in a world of make believe. Believing in something, no matter how deeply, doesn't make it real.

I don't think so.

If that was true the Cubs would have been playing in the World Series every year since1959 and the Whilte Sox would have beaten them, every year since 1959.

Things don't become true because people believe in them.

They are true only if they really are true.

About 1,000 people believed that the Rev. Jim Jones was a Godly man and that the People's Temple was God's true church.

Most of those same 1,000 people committed mass suicide, proving that they had believed a lie. That was in about the year, 1978 or so.

That lie did not become true because someone believed it to be true.

PS: The US Army was sent to Guyana to clean up the mess reported several interesting things. One of the interesting things is that there were no Bibles in that town called, "Jonestown" on Guyana.

Well, it's like self fulfilling prophecies. If you believe you can do something then your attitude changes and probably your decision making is different, thus the thing happens.

They say the opposite is also true, if you think you are a loser, you won't try new things, won't give your all if you do, then when it fails you tell yourself that it failed because you always fail, when in reality, your decision making and thought process was the reason why it failed.

This is what they say....

I believe this only happens part of the time. I believe that you can think something will be a certain way, you can step out on faith that it will happen and you can speak positively about it and it STILL not happen.

Shelly's right about positive thinking, but the same holds true for negative thinking. Being convinced that you're a failure causes you to act out the role of a failure, just as being told you're worthless and believing you are worthless causes you to act in ways unbefitting of someone who has a healthy sense of self-worth.

No, convincing yourself that you are destined for greatness does not ensure greatness. Actions, timing, and a good plan or perhaps a bit of luck all contribute to greatness. Belief without action nets nothing, action without belief will have varied results depending on the soundness of the plan being followed.

Oh, and to relate this to religion & spirituality, if you're convinced that you're worthless and deserving of the worst possible fate, you'll gladly take what you think is the only option to avoid that fate. If you aren't convinced that you're worthless, you'll be less likely to submit completely to those who say you are. If you're convinced that only you can determine your self-worth, you aren't likely at all to fall prey to those that say you aren't worthy of anything but the worst possible outcome. To the contrary, you're more likely to think that they deserve exactly what they are trying to convince you of.

Many believe it is. It's the idea of every piece of energy you put into the Universe coming back to you in some form or other. So obviously, you would want to send out as much positive energy as you can in order for positive energy to return to you. There is an excellent book titled: 'The Secret' that is centered around this very subject.

yes - we have enormous power when we want to use it.

The power of positive thinking is extremely underrated... and if nothing else, you have a positive outlook on life. I believe that with positive thoughts we are also more open to positive situations when they present themselves...

I think that's why people say to look for a job when you already have one... you aren't focused on the outcome, you are focused on the journey!

also, karmically, we get back what we send out... send out negativity, and it's no surprise if you are unhappy with the outcome...send out positivity... the way I see it, it can't hurt...

Of course, you have to follow through on it with your actions... If you think you are destined for greatness and don't do anything but sit on the computer, nothing will happen... but if you KNOW you are destined for greatness and approach everything in your life with that attitude, then you will see the greatness in your life.

It's not enough in and of itself to make it true. But it is absolutely necessary to do that in order to emotionally pave the way for doing the hard work to make it a reality.

Perhaps you die the next day; that would make the thought not true, unless you thought the great things you would do was death. Then it would have been true... what are you insisting here?

If you believe you are comfortable with your body, personality, or intelligence you most likely are comfortable with yourself.
