that is very common for a lot of dogs, especially that kind of dog(especially the shaking) he should stop shaking when he feels safe and comfortable, he probably shakes when he's excited, nervous or scared.
If he is young he may not be able to hold his pee and poop in for long and he'll just go in the cage. Even adults of that kind of dog have trouble with it because their bladders are so small. Try and get a "pee mat" which you can buy at almost any pet store. These help puppies learn to go to the bathroom in a certain area. If the cage is large enough you can put one in a corner and try to train him to use it while he's in the cage. Always take him out to use the bathroom before you put him in the cage and as soon as you get home.
The reason he yelps is because he is scared, and probably bored. He probably has separation anxiety. I have had dogs with this problem before, basically you have to start out leaving him in the cage for a few minutes while you are still in the same room, but don't make it a punishment and try not to make it scary for him when you put him in the cage. Eventually you can leave him in longer and then leave the house, but try to keep it short! You may want to ask your vet for more advice.

Puppies are just like human babies in that they have to go to the bathroom much more often than adults. Walk him more often and put him in the crate when you are at home, praise him when he is quiet and ignore him when he is not.
When you're training put the crate near your favorite tv chair, and with a dog that small your should be able to carry it into the bedroom at night so he has company.
You could also try to get him a kitty litter box if you are away for 8 hours a day. You can't expect a small pup to hold it that long. I know I couldn't and I'm not a pup anymore.
I went on a cruise once where the captain had a weiner dog who used a litter box. They even make larger boxes specifically made for dogs to use.
Puppies have a tendency to shake, I think it has to due with a low body mass. It you only weigh a couple of pounds and have a thin coat as chihauhas do, then you get cold and stay cold. They make dog and cat beds with a heater in it. If he is really small you might get him a cat one.
Also get him a fuzzy toy from a pet store that is slightly larger than him and washer save to keep him company while you're away.
If he's small and too young to stay that long in a crate then put him in a bathroom with some newpapers until he is a little older.
Good luck and maybe you could check out some books at the library on puppies, there are some very good ones out there.

Your puppy is too young to fully grasp the things you are trying to teach her. I had the same problem with my dog when he was a 6 month old puppy but he slowly and gradually learned. Make sure you show her who's the "alpha dog" in her every day training. If she does something that she's not supposed to, say "BAD GIRL" and scold her. Eventually she will get used to those words and the tone you are using, so she will learn not to do those things. Be patient on the potty training as it takes some time. She will get the hang of it. Just bring her outside as often as you can and when she goes potty reward her by saying "good girl" etc. Dogs have pack mentality so if you show her you're the leader she will respect you and act accordingly. Good luck.

It takes time. Right now his bladder is very small. My pug would go potty in his cage when he was a puppy but now that he's older he never does. He does still bark when we get home but not because he is distressed. I think he believes that if he doesn't bark we'll forget to let him out. lol One thing I do to make him see his cage as a positive place is give him a treat every time I leave. Now when he sees me get my shoes on he'll run into his cage to wait for his treat. I would ask the vet about the shaking. One of my other dogs shakes when she is overly excited or when she's scared (thunder, fireworks, etc. will make her shake). But if it's a constant thing it wouldn't hurt to ask the vet.

Lol the shaking is normal in small breeds, especially Chihuahuas. make sure you don't have bedding in the crate. If your puppy lays in it's mess, it won't keep messing it's crate.
He is probably yelping because your home and he's ready to come out. Before you go running to console him, settle yourself in. Put your stuff away or use the restroom without talking to him. Give him a second to realize your not going to run in the door all excited. After a few days, once he gets used to the routine, he should calm down. Just make sure your not acknowledging him till your ready and he's calm.
Good Luck!

He/She shakes because he is scared, maby he/she is hot.
I do not know how to cage train a dog, but we just trained out dog to pee and poop outside, you need to watch it, as soon as it starts to pee or poop pick him/her up say NO and then take him/her outside while they are peeing or pooping, then praise them with a treat and a good boy/girl. They will then learn that peeing and pooping outside is positive behavior, you need to have patience.
FYI, if you just got the puppy it will yelp all night, you have to leave it, maby a dog like teddy (bigger than the puppy) to comfort it, we did this (it had a hot water bottle in it, to make the "Scooby-Doo" as life like as possible, i hope this helps.

Hello. You should make sure your puppy and peed and pooed before putting him in the cage. If you put him in there without walking him, he may have to go.
Also, does he only shake when he is in the cage?
If not, he may be frightened... How long have you had him?

If he is peeing and pooping in his cage then it is too big. It should only be big enough for him to stand up and turn around comfortably. When you get him the right sized cage, he won't go in there anymore. When you take him out of the cage immediately bring him outside. Shaking is very common in the breed. I'm not sure why they do it; they just do.

Stick a peanut butter filled kong in with you pup and then stick some ear plugs in your ears.
It can take a while for dogs to get used to being crated, so hang in there. NEVER let your pup out when they are crying or whining. If you do they will just learn that when they carry on for hours at a time it works.
Placing your pup in for a short while at a time is good idea however you must remember to take it out only when it is quiet.
Hang in there, it is worth it in the end. good luck!

ok, what is a chiweenie?
Cross between a chihuahua and a dachshund?
If so, that is their nature to shake.
Are you forcing him to go in?
Are you leaving him in for a long period of time?
If so, you need to put him in for 15mins at a time before you can leave him for hours.
He needs to get used to it. He may think that he is being punished.
Put him in, tell him good boy, and check on him often and then let him out. Put his favorite toy in there.
Before you put him, make sure he goes outside to do his business.
Good luck!
