I believe in God and have made Peace with him...but that is a very interesting question and I hope that people who dont believe in him will really think about this one because Hell is a very real place.

The concept of hell as a burning punishment goes back further than Xianity. Zoroastrianism has a bridge that you must cross to get to paradise. There are flames on either side. If you have any impure thoughts or have led a wicked life, you fall off the bridge.
If there is any truth to the captivity in Babylon, this is where the concept probably first came into the Jewish mindset. Much of Xianiaty comes from Zoroastrianism and Mithraism, not just the concept of hell.
If I believed in hell, then I would probably be a Xian, Muslim, or Jew. However, I am confident in my belief that there is no hell. I am 100% positive that the Xians are completely wrong. Oh and FYI, I am not an atheist.

How many more times? When I'm dead it's over. No after life, no soul, no nothing just worm food. In order to believe in hell I'd have to believe in heaven - and I don't. And the fact that if it were real and that 'it sounds like it is awfully hot there' is relevant because? Without a body, which is left behind and the soul leaves according to Christians, you can't feel pain of heat. You'd have no nerve endings. No body - no ability to feel pain - end of. When they sat around inventing the Bible, they clearly hadn't bargained on people being educated one day and being able to spot the flaw in the ridiculous creation that is the Bible!

The concept of a hot hell for everlasting torment of sinners is pretty much a Christian invention. Whether you believe in it or not, the concept of making "peace with God" in Judiasm and Christianity is summed up in the parable of the Prodigal Son. In Judiasm, G-d waits to the final minute of a sinners life for him to repent, and then welcomes him with open arms.
HOWEVER, how does one make peace with God? In Judiasm, man makes peace with God ONLY if he makes peace with man. This idea is central to Atonement (see Isaiah 58).

The clearest possibility is that after death there is a state of non-being, just like not having been born yet. I'm alive now (otherwise I wouldn't be on Yahoo! Answers) and when I die, I'll be dead. This seems more plausible than heaven and hell, either of which, let's face it, are fairly simplistic and pedestrian concepts of ultimate reallity.

Which god would you make peace with? The Christian one or Allah, Vishnu, Zeus, Wotan or one of the many others, like the Flying Spaghetti Monster??
Most religions condemn you to hell if you dont believe in that particular god so unfortunately youve had it, youre going there anyway.
Luckily I dont believe in superstitious mumbo jumbo so its not something I worry about.

Wow okay.. tough call... hmmm, if all is said and done and everything written in stone then each religion is domed to fail and every one going to hell. you really have no say in where you are going so Me, personally... I would simply let go of the pain i was experiencing and hope that some one was wise enough to bring beer to the longest house warming party ever.

If I was about to die I would be more worried about the people who I was leaving behind... my friends and family...
As I dont believe in hell and have never believed in it because there is not one shred of evidence for it, its never concerned me. If there is an afterlife of any description it will come as a surprise to me. It always amazes me the way believers assume tha non-believers are actually secretly believers who just dont want to follow the rules... I genuinely do not believe...

I don't think people have a soul or anything that stays on after they die, so I'm not worried about any of my body parts going anywhere, hot or otherwise.
