Carlos Santana often collaborates with various popular singers/performers for his albums. Chad Kroeger worked with him in 2002 ("Why Don't You & I" was the song), and did another song with Santana this year (called "Into The Night").
Nickleback hasn't announced a breakup, so I'm pretty sure it's just a collaboration.

carlos santana hit huge with his collaberation of several artist on his last album supernatural ie. smooth with rob thomas
