I own two poms and absolutely adore them. I'd never switch to a different dog since I've gotten them. They are playful, and have lots of character. Some will "prance" around when they are happy (mine does that), and it soo cute to watch.
The one thing with poms, and it would also be for Yorkies, is that they need alot of grooming if you plan on keeping their long fur. They should be groomed 1 time a day or so, which can get annoying.
Also, with all of them, they are tiny, so they can easily get hurt (mine broke his leg once).
Chihuahua's tend to be barky, and some Poms can also be loud...so if your parents don't like a barking/yapping dog, you might want to stay away from those.
It's all on personal taste though, I have friends like love Yorkies and never would get anything else. Read up about the three breeds. Know alot about them before you make up your mind.
Owning a dog is alot of responsibility. Don't buy one and find out later than you can not take care of him, or not be able to pay for vet expensices.
To give you an idea of a Pom vet bill that I had (all together) was $2000 when my puppy broke his leg. His leg had a hard time healing, so had to be in a cast for another month. All dogs can be expensive....so don't think Poms or small dogs are the only ones.

Don't buy - adopt! Puppy shops and back yard breeder dogs will sell you very sick dogs that will cost you a fortune at the vet.*
All 3 of these breeds are active, "real" dogs that need training classes and positive reinforcement just as large dogs do. If you don't mind the constant, excessive barking that these 3 breeds are notorious for, you're set. If you or your parents cannot have manic alarm barking, then you need to reconsider, please. Not that this cannot be trained away - but be prepared for the noise and hyperactivity. Find a *positive* trainer and sign up for classes.

CHIHUAHUA!!!!!!!!!!
I have 6 Chihuahuas. They are VERY loyal and possessive. They can get "Napoleon Syndrome" that sometimes need to be cured. N.S. strikes little Chihuahuas sometimes from birth . . . they snarl, they snap, they charge and yap, basically, the little guys think they can conquer the world, and see themselves as 5 foot tall PIT BULLS instead of what they really are, 5 inch tall little Chihuahuas.
Outside of that, they are easy to train and seem for the most part to be very smart. They can easily be carried around when you go places. Mine are well trained. I don't usually leash them because they stay next to me and my wife helps herd them if they don't.

chihuahuas are LOUD and annoying. they yap alot, and lemme just say they can be a pain in the @$$. yorkies are good dogs and most of the time well behaved. the only problem you could have with them is constant barking. Pomeranians are alright. Notice i said "alright." my reason is because sometimes they will be good and cool with everything, then the next thing you know, they are jumping up trying to bite you, yapping, running around. but i guess it really all depends on the owner and how you train them.

I own a cogi pomeranian
out of all those dogs I would get a pomeranian
my dog is medium sized and I step on him alot looking at a yorkie I would say you could probably kill him by standin on a dog like that.
a chihuhua is not a dog you can take anywhere he is fragile a cuddly dog, nippy
a pomernian is a pretty good dog but can be nippy but they are also very playful
I suggest the Pomeranian :)

Chihuahuas are scared little things so they bark alot at people and things to show that they aren't afraid. Always cold too so they need blankets and coats and can't be kept outside for long. They like to be with you all the time and get under foot. They are happy to be in one of those doggy purses with a soft fleece blankie at your side where ever you go! You must make sure they are warm at night or they won't sleep!
Yorkies like to be held and are very picky about their food. They need lots of brushing because that hair gets tangled underneath and you have to be very careful when you do it because pulling on the knots hurts. They are very loving to people they know but get a bit grumpy with new people if not properly socialized.
Poms want to be with you all the time. They love to be carried around and want to be beautiful. They take pride in their fluff and just glory in the attention they will get when you carry them around people. They too need brushing because they get tangled and because they are beauty queens/kings.

I guess you have to think if you'd be ok with your clothes and furniture full of hair sometimes...chihuahuas don't have that problem, but as a personal advice, don't buy a chihuahua...they're really noisy, barking all the time.

explain to your parents in a thoughtful way how much you want a dog, tell them that you WILL remeber to clean up after, walk, and feed your dog. Beg your parents for one as a Christmas present. you can go a day after christmas to an animal shelter to pick out a dog.

Please, get a real dog! Little dogs are bossy and yappy and can be aggressive, and if your parents aren't keen on dogs in the first place, they won't get on with anklebiters. You should ask them to get a nice healthy crossbreed from the shelter, and tell them you could be saving that dog's life. Also reassure them that you will do your share of the work - including the nasty stuff like picking up poo and hard stuff like walking the dog in all weathers. And make sure you mean it, and carry it through! Good luck!
