1. Natural selection favors genes that improve capacity for survival and reproduction.

2. Genetic drift is the random sampling of a generation's genes during reproduction, causing random changes in the frequency of alleles.

3. Gene flow is the transfer of genes within and between populations.

Stop! You're hurting the religious peoples' brains. That's too deep, man! Too complicated for them.

"God created the heavens and the Earth," is much more detailed and believable than "gene flow" and "genetic drift" Ugh!

Nothing you said had anything to do with "evolution".

1. Natural Selection as observed is actually the concept that certain members of a population are removed by natural means (acts of God, predators, competition). These means have a tendency to remove "unfit" individuals, usually unhealthy by age or disease. Mutated genetic differences as observed only result in "unfit" individuals, beneficial mutations can not be observed in the environment.

2. Genetic drift simply expands gene flow to the entire set of genotypes of a specific genome. A genome only has defined boundaries according to scientists, the true boundaries are unknown thus impossible to suggest change in species.

3. Gene flow can just as easily be defined as the movement of specific traits throughout a population, in humans this is just eye color, height, hair color, etc. This has nothing to do with evolution.

The truth is genetics has nothing to do with differences in species but rather differences in individuals of a species. Thus animals that are more physically similar have similar genes being expressed but has no effect on the actual species expressed. For instance all mammals have genes expressing hair, eye, lactation, hand, foot, characteristics and more. Thus humans have a tendency to share more genetic traits with primates because they have least amount of differences in these areas, mainly apes have foot-hands and a different vertebrae setup. If a specific individual of another species had the same DNA as a human they would appear drastically different because the overall species foundation would be different; believed to be due to number of chromosomes and chromosomal arrangement.

I believe in Evolution and don't quite understand the arguments against it.
I also do not believe that it clashes with religious beliefs, unless one insists in taking all the stories in the holy books literally, instead of taking just their all important spiritual and social messages.
Sexual reproduction is widespread in nature precisely because it favors mutations, hence Evolution. Otherwise, what for?

Then answer this please- Why are there no interim fossils found between species? There is NOTHING in the fossil record that supports macroevolution. I be lieve in microevolution but not that every species came from one progenitor.

Time has actually disproved Darwins' theory. He advanced the idea that the fossil records would support his ideas- It DOES NOT. You cannot even explain the Cambrian explosion away. The millions of creatures that came about in such a short period of time cannot be traced back prior to the Cambrian era.

Conservative Christian: "Natural selection must be Atheist code for God, and "genes" means your SOUL, you Atheists think you can get over on us smart Christians with your tales of explosions and monkeys matin' to make humans, but we Christians see right through your ploy. Evolution, indeed."

Open-minded Atheist (cleverly using irony): "Amen!"

Me: "Yeah, I learned that in sixth grade. Creation. Whatever."

I understand.

I just don't see how nothing could have got the whole process going. Just because evolution doesn't agree with the Bible, doesn't mean that there is no divine creator.

Think about this: it you hear a big banging sound in the other room, you would jump and say "what caused that?".

Well if your friend said to you "nothing caused it- it just happened." Would you believe that? Hey, I wouldn't.

If you believe in the big bang and evolutions that's fine. But what says that there isn't a being that caused it to happen?

This shoe fits the foot well, but love and truth don't know about genes and DNA. Which came first, love or the shoe?

That is the coolest thing about newborn babies. Seeing which way the genes fall. My favorites are throwbacks. Evolution at its finest.

Evidence of adaptation is not evolution. Has scientific education really sunk to such a low level that students no longer capable of critical thinking and really believe this has anything to do with Darwin's theory of evolution. It does not. Of course we adapt but we do not evolve from one form of life to another. Got ANY evidence like transitional species either past or present?

You've got a lot missing there.
It is not quite as simple as you want it to be, or seem to think.

It takes many more years than you would ever see to facilitate the changes required to establish the property changes in genetic material.

You think the go poof, overnight?
