The Morality of Mass Immigration from a Roman Catholic Perspective
What are Catholics in the pews to make of their bishops’ costly, all-out commitment to a version of immigration reform that would swell today’s high legal immigration, undermine workers’ bargaining power and do little to curb future illegal entries?

All the bishops’ proposals are rooted in genuine concern for the welfare and safety of a migrant population they have increasingly embraced as special clients in recent decades — the objects of the Church’s “preferential option for the poor.” The bishops’ ideal immigration policy is made in heaven. And that is its biggest problem. Legislators and citizens live and work in the secular City of Man, with its ecology of greed, compromise, ideals, conflicts, fears, limits, and the unending search for individual and community security.

Have the bishops become just one more contentious, rent-seeking interest group in pressing for radical immigration reforms? High immigration has been good business for the American bishops. Tax-free government grants and contracts to Church charities serving refugees and immigrants are worth several hundred million yearly, further strengthening Church patronage and influence.

I believe in God but I don't think it's possible to know very much about him. I don't accept the Bible as a 'revelation', I think it is a fascinating collection of ancient writings but there's nothing especially holy about it.

I distrust organized religions because they all, to some extent or other, tell more than they actually know, and mix some politics in with the religious stuff. Organized churches foster a mentality of in-group vs out-group, us vs them, to the point where they often do more harm than good.

As well as the Star/Interesting button I wish they had something opposite.
That question was like fingernails on a blackboard.
My brain nearly haemorrhaged whilst trying to concentrate on getting to the end.
It was awful.

I am a Christian. I use the Bible as my final authority. I understand the Bible in a literal sense. It says that all men sin (miss the mark) of perfection and that we need a Savior who will not only pay the penalty for sin, but win power over sin to help us keep from sinning as He lives in and through us. I believe we need to repent (change our heart to a new direction -- away from sinning and the LOVE of sinning, and toward dependence on Jesus to live His life through us.

I don't think in terms of denomination (Lutheran, Catholic, etc). I study the Bible and can share and learn from others who study the Bible no matter which denomination or non-denomination they are from. Talk of Christ supercedes all denominations. I attend a Lutheran Church, but my heart is to share with all true Christians of every denomination, and tell those who don't believe about what Jesus has done for them.

I believe there's something-in my life experience with other religions, theres sooooo many similarities-it surely has to stem from one thing??And if you sit quietly one day and think-all of this has to come from something, but what?you know, every thing has a beginning, and at one time, there must have been nothing at all.But how could 'something' come from nothing????Blows the mind doesnt it!But if God or Allah was responsible, where did he come from??????Ooooh-is it too deep?
