I have a 10 week old boxer that has been dewormed and had his first round of puppy shots. Is it ok to board him? I will be gone for 2 weeks.

Boarding him is a last resort, I am trying to find a place for him that is better. The breeder is my roommate. DON'T tell me about BYB. I know. She was preggo when I moved in. Thanks for the input so far!

If he's that young - he's not yet vaccinated for rabies, doesn't have a vaccination against kennel cough unless you requested one. Most kennels have - in fact, all //should// have - policies stating the dog MUST have these vaccinations. And they will not board a dog that's lacking them.

Plus - he's 10 weeks old! Kennels tend to be very stressful for dogs. New people, new place, other dogs . . .it would be very hard on a puppy. At this stage in life, it could majorly set your dog back.

Ask a family member, a friend, the breeder. But don't be gunning to put him up in a boarding kennel just yet.

In my past experience, as long as you bring your puppy's medical records to the boarding place, they should take him since he has had shots. Although most boarding places will separate the large dogs from the smaller dogs, I think it would be better if you can find someone to take care of him for two weeks because your puppy might get sick from being around other dogs. Whopping cough is very contagious and I have seen healthy dogs catch it from other dogs at the boarding place. Try calling several boarding places and check out their facilities. Perhaps the dog breeder where you got your dog from would be willing to take care of him for two weeks. How about asking a close friend or neighbor. Good luck.

I wouldn't he should have had 2 set of shots one at 6 weeks and one at 9 weeks he isn't fully protected and has a high chance of coming down with something.
this si also an imprtant time for training any trinint you have done will be ruined by leaving him in a boarding place for that long.
It will be a very big mistake

Personally, I think he's too young. 10 weeks is a critical age for socialization and bonding. If you were going to be gone for 2 days, that would probably be okay, but 2 weeks is 1/6 of his lifetime! If you absolutely have to leave, I would suggest leaving him with a trusted friend or relative if possible.

You will have to ask. Some kennels have a minimum age. He will need all of his shots. Again the requireds depend on the kennel. You might have better luck if you board him in a veterinary clinic with a kennel.

Your dog will survive it with no physical problems but you are losing the best time to bond with him and socialize him.You have only had him a couple weeks and he is still learning your routines. If you can find a small kennel where he will get a lot of attention it would be better than a big kennel.

I don't think the kennels would accept him without the second round - they certainly won't in my country - but speak to them to check.

As long as he is current with all shots. I would inquire with whomever he will be with and what their rules are.
