I deer hunt. Now some of you people don't agree with it. I don't care. Don't write anything bad about hunting. I can sit for 2 hours but after that i jus fade out and want to leave the stand and i eventually do get out of the stand a few minutes later. What can i do to sit longer?

bring a bb gun and shoot the squirrels. Also bring food and a book. If you are in the woods in the fall you will hear the deer so don't worry about reading.

Once you reach the point where you think about leaving you are done. Each minute becomes excruciating. Take a nap (make sure you have a safety harness).

I have found that you can stand up in a stand, do a little jig and the deer aren't the wiser. When you are on the ground they will see you.

I have never tried it but maybe a mp3 player on low volume? I don't know about that but if you are going to leave anyway what can it hurt?

One final thought. Good scouting reduces waiting times.

The three things that get a hunter out of his stand early are comfort, boredom and having to pee. Fist make sure that you have enough warm clothing. then make sure that you have a comfortable place to sit. This may require that you bring a cushion to sit on. Next, have a pee bottle with a screw lid. Finally, take along a good book to read. You can read a few lines and then glance around for deer and then go back to reading. Do not take a radio or MP3 player into the woods with you. Everybody likes to listen to their music at a high enough volume that the deer can hear it, too. Leave the tunes at home and just use a good book to keep you occupied. If you are not a reader, take a puzzlebook. If you are an artist, take a few sheets of paper and a pencil and draw what you see. Take a camera and take pictures of the other animals that you see or just take pictures of the scenery. What the heck, you are supposed to be haviing fun out there not just harvesting some meat. Learn to enjoy the time in the woods. I lo ve to just sit and watch what is going on around me. If there are squirrels in the area, they can be little clowns and a source of a lot of pleasure to watch. Watch the birds and see what all is living in the woods. There are so many ways to occupy your self and enjoy the hunt. Just give it some thought and see what will keep you occupied long enough to see a deer.

These ideas may not be popular but they have worked for me.
#1 A seat cushion does help.
#2 I always take along a bag of hard candy. Helps keep you from coughing and it helps you from drinking alot.
#3 A 1 gallon milk jug spray painted camo green. I know this sounds silly but at some point you need to pee. I use the gallon jug instead of peeing on the ground and scaring the deer off.
#4 I have seen guys take small "walkman" style radios with the single ear phone. And I have seen guys spend $5 bucks at Wal-Mart for an electronic Poker or black-jack game. I do not recommend sitting and talking on your cell phone. If you feel the need to talk on the phone you should stay home.
#5 Set a specific time you intend to leave the stand. With a set time in mind you'll find it easier to stick out the time.

First of all high five on the tree stand approach. I for one hate tree stands. But if you want to stay in a tree stand longer you either need to get a beter cusion or move around every 5 to 10 minutes. i know this sounds dumb and welll dumb but it will allow you to stay in a tree stand longer. Occasionally you might scare a deer or whatever your hunting away but it will give you more time in the tree.

Comfort is the key if you are cold or uncomfortable you are done. Everyone has excellent ideas. I have done the book thing IT is great. I shot a deer while i was reading a TOm Clancy book. Had to stop reading to raise my rifle and dust him. THen i finished the chapter before climbing down. Music is fine but you cant hear the wildlife. Video games on mute. A camera to take pictures of other wildlife. THe key is comfort. Try not to sleep you will miss dear and you could fall out and get hurt or killed. CAREFUL

Invest in a good comfortable treestand, and a good pair of boots. I sit in my stand up to 10 hours a day sometimes. I'll take a book, handheld video games, anything to keep your mind interested. Then handwarmers are just not for your hands. When it's -10 I'll put hand warmers in almost every pocket I have. Next week I'll be in my stand from sunup, till sundown every day. up till 2 years ago, 7 of the top ten Pope and young kills have been in the week of Halloween in my area

Force youself to stay longer. The 1st time you force yourself and shoot a whitetail buck, it will make the rest of your hunts easier to sit longer. Trust me. Dad sat me in the same spot for 6 hrs and I shot my 1st buck. From then on, I can sit from sun up to sun down. Plus people that don't have the patience to sit are the ones that drive the deer to me. Patience grasshopper.

Maybe you shouldn't sit longer than that. I have been a hunter and fisherman for over 50 years. I think hunting is a lot like fishing in one spot; and not catching anything. It's time to move to another spot. There is no simple answer here, it's your call.
