I have a TON of baby girl clothes I'm looking to sell. There are two stores in my town I'm considering. One is a consignment store. They take your stuff, sell it, and then after 3 months give you 50% of whatever they've sold. The problem with that store is that if you give them 5 things, and they only sell 3 by the 3 month mark, you don't get any money for the rest of your stuff. The other store takes inventory of what you want to give them, offer you a certain amount of money up front, and then you don't deal with them any more - they just sell it. I'm thinking the second store would be best, but I have a TON of stuff; I'm just afraid they'd cheat me or not give me NEARLY what my clothes are worth. Does anyone have experience with both? Thank you in advance!

I prefer the first option, that worked better for me. Going the second route, they offer you the cheapest rate they can give you and could possibly mark it up more than the % they would give you. If you can wait for the money, do it the first way. I made good money that way. The store I dealt with would donate the stuff that didn't sell and I was ok with that.

I did this all the time (Second store) when my kids were younger and plan on doing it again with my one on the way when she grows out of her cloths and other baby items. They will look at everything and its condition then make you an offer. If you don't think it's worth it then you can always say no. I never told them no so I am not sure if they would have negotiated or just sent me home with my things? If you know your stuff is clean and in good condition then you should get a good price. If your not happy with price you can go to the first store but to me that sounds like a worse deal. Note that either store you go to may not take all your stuff no matter what condition due to the season (may not want summer cloths if it is winter) or if their inventory on a certain item is fully stocked. Again if they don't take any items for whatever reason then you can always take to first store and get experience from both.

I have dealt with both and up front is much easier. They take what they want and cut you a check, no fuss. Don't expect a whole lot for the items though, they give very little, but something is better than nothing on stuff you won't use anymore. Hold the items they don't want for a yard sale.

A couple of tips before you take your items in. Make sure everything is freshly laundered and neatly folded. Bring the clothes in totes, no more than 3/4 full so they are able to sort through them. Keep in mind that for clothing, most places only want the latest styles so the most recent year's clothes are more likely to be purchased. If you're bringing toys or electronics, they too must be clean and in working order. Bring them in with batteries installed so you can prove that they work.

Good luck!

The second store is better. However they are not going to give you what the clothes are worth at all. The first store is ok if you want to wait 3 months and get half of what they sold the stuff for but what if they don't sell all of in the 3 months, then you are out of luck and your babies stuff.

Any reputable consignment store will RETURN the items that didn't sell.

Find one (if that genuinely isn't one that returns your stuff; I've never heard of that), sell stuff there, and then sell what the consignment store couldn't sell to the second store.

Well I'd go with the second store anyway. Just take all your clothing in there and see what they would give you. You could always have a garage sale if the price isn't what you were thinking it should be. Good luck.

have done a consignment shop before but it was mainly to get the stuff out of the house and not to make money. it sounds like you want to make as much as you can then i would suggest selling it on ebay, cause then you can set the price

I'm not going to do that.. If I know someone that is having a girl then I'm just going to give the clothes to them.. People have given me some of their baby clothes.. and i've accumulated alot myself.. and I know how nice it was to get some free stuff. So i'd rather help someone out if i could.

i'd suggest using your local craigslist. if you have clothes worth a lot of money, a consignment shop won't even give you a fraction. by listing them on craigslist.com (free) you control how much you sell you items for. good luck! i'd buy your clothes! i've got a little girl on the way!

why not sell them on ebay???? ebay is a great place to sell unwanted baby clothes and items, I bought heaps of stuff off ebay, you may want to consider that option as well, or have a garage sale too and advertise in the local paper about it.
