I'm not trying to mock God or anything, but if he really did create the universe, why in the world did he create 8, or 7 (depending on how you feel about pluto), meaningless planets? They are pieces of junk. Theres no purpose for them. So why create them? Doesn't it almost make more sense to say that they came from a random big bang? That would explain their meaningless existence....

Dreamdress2...after i read what i wrote, i just thought it was harsh to call them pieces of junk. i mean, they aren't actually junk, they are planets. I still think they are meaningless though.

You mean AS FAR AS YOU KNOW there is no purpose for them. Ooops, I forgot, you atheists/agnostics are soooooo brilliant that if something isn't apparent to YOU, then it must be false.

For the record, there are a whoooooole lot more than the 9 planets buzzing around our sun up there - (actually 8 now since Pluto just got demoted to a rock, LOL). Those you are talking about constitute one microscopical teeny little corner of one galaxy. There are trillions of galaxies and a multi-gazillion orbs wizzing around out there.
I absolutely believe in the Big Bang because it is the only thing that makes sense to me. But just because YOU find something meaningless to YOU, doesn't mean that it is, because you only get one vote on the matter, out of the six and a half billion human beings currently on this planet. People create their own sense of "meaning" out of something, and I am sure that all the astroscientists in the world find everything absolutely fascinating and challenging as they concentrate on learning more and more. Perhaps the answer to a lot of our unanswered questions is, quite literally, "written in the stars"

God don't make junk.
Everything is for a reason and has it's purposes.
Heck we can even land on another planet, just that small moon, and your going to judge God....
Don't make judgments like that unless you can land on that planet and study it.... I am sure it has it's purpose.
Consider the ideal temperatures on planet Earth--not duplicated on any other known planet in the universe. If we were closer to the sun, we would fry. If we were father away, we would freeze. Ocean tides, which are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, play a crucial role in our survival. If the moon were significantly larger, thereby having a stronger gravitational pull, devastating tidal waves would submerge large areas of land. if the moon were smaller, tidal motion would cease, and the oceans would stagnate and die.
I can go on why there is a God and why everything He made is for some purpose are little minds and eyes cannot see or understand at this time... everything and everyone is connected because of the One Creator God:) UNLIMITED Wisdom....like the stars.
The stars are there for you to see, but can you count them?

i guess you could say the same for the moon too....generally pretty meaningless...but.... i think it's so man could see from the beginning of time just how vast & big the universe is. Like if it was just black out there, you couldn't tell how big the universe is. Add some stars, planets and the moon and you've now got some perspective as to the incredible size of the universe. He may have only made 7-8 planets around earth cause thats about as far as the human eye can see. God says "you wanna know how big i am....look up....check out the universe...i made it."
Nowadays with technology we've learnt it's like....never ending
we can't even see the end of the universe even thou we've sent space probes with telescopes on them!! We're talkin huge!!

I'm agnostic but I do not believe that the existence of seemingly redundant features of the universe, refutes the existence of a God.
First off, are they actually redundant? We don't know much about the universe. It is possible they do have some function. Before Watson's double-helix, we didn't think much of what particular parts were or what they could do.
Secondly, if the planets indeed offer no function, so what? The freckles on a human's skin is meaningless, what purpose do freckles serve? It is intuitively obvious that having freckles (a seemingly redundant feature) does not disprove God's being.
Nothing I have said of course, proves that God exists. All I have wanted tos how is that if there is redundance in the world, it does not disprove God.

I can't explain how everything came into existence , I'm not that old . Was there a big bang ? truly does anyone really know for sure ? I'm not buying the " God " thing either who came first the chicken or the egg ? If God made everything , who made God then , Right , Right ....
Who knows where we really came from , Something happened cause we are here , thanks to God or a Random Event ( like a space asteroid bringing " life " to our tiny planet )
Well this is it , WE are here like it or not . Why ? Nobody really knows for sure . But I'm sure someday the truth will make its way to all of us in existence some how ...

If it weren't for the other planets then earth would not exist in the state that we have it now. The inner planets keep earth a perfect distance from the sun, so that the climate can support life such as ours and the outer planets proivide protection from asteroids and comets because of their high gravitational fields. Remember the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 that slammed into Jupiter back in 1994. If that had been Earth we wouldn't be here today.

Why did God create the billions of other galaxies which all contain billions of stars? And each star usually has a solar system with planets and some planets have moon(s).
I'll tell you why, God doesn't exist. The entire universe isn't suited for existence, although we got lucky and evolved to suit this tiny speck of a planet we call earth.
But, the Bible says the universe was clearly built specifically for our existence.
Which one is right? You decide.

I see your point. They have given plenty of people amusement over the years. Scientifically, and spiritually, as a lot of people look to the planets for their destinty. You could say that without other life forms, of an intelligent nature, that the entire universe is a waste. Most times I think the human race is a waste. All we do is destroy our Mother, our Earth. We hurt, and kill each other for reasons that are trivial. We harm more than help most of the time. What's the point of that? Those planets are there so that when we're done destroying this one, we have more to wreck.

God did create the universe but I do think things have chaged since that. Its entirely possible that thoes "meaningless planets" 1, either have some purpose still unknown or 2, came off of other planets.

Do we know for sure that those planets are junk? We've never been there. Maybe one day a probe will go to Pluto and the samples that it brings back will unlock all sorts of information, cure cancer and AIDS, and allow us to harness new energies.
Okay, maybe that won't happen. But what I mean is that those examples are simply not enough for me to think there is no God.
