Radical Hispanic separatist organization MEChA ("Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan") is taking responsibility for setting the wildfires in California, confimed Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. California officials received a letter earlier today containing photographs of individuals holding Molotov cocktails, then throwing them into dry brush. The faces of the individuals appeared to have been digitally distorted.

Also included was a rambling manifesto, stating that the reason for the act of arson was that "Aztlán belongs to indigenous people, the Chicanas and Chicanos of Aztlán. We are sovereign and not subject to a foreign culture."

Orange County Fire Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion told CNN that the pattern of wildfires definitely indicates arson.

"The reason we think it is [arson] is because we found multiple points of origin," Concepcion said. "... Our investigators have confirmed that this is, in fact, arson."

Concepcion said evidence indicated the arsonists wanted the fire to grow rapidly.

A $70,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for setting the fire. No suspects have been identified, though they are probably brown.

The state established a toll-free arson tip line at 800-540-7085. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said anyone convicted of arson would be dealt with harshly.http://www.cnnheadlienews.com/2007/US/10/25/fire.mecha/index.html

Might want to re-read that web address.

This is a hoax, no truth to it whatsoever. The site listed, cnnheadlinenews.com, or whatever it was, is a fake, designed to look exactly like the real CNN website.

CNN has demanded that the perpetrators take down the phony site, and it has been removed.

There is no "Hispanic separatist movement" in America. Got that? It doesn't exist, no such thing. It's a complete sham perpetrated by some right-wing loony tune trying to stir up racial tensions.

I live in Albuquerque. If the Latinos were staging an insurrection, we'd be among the first to know. My numerous Hispanic neighbors seem to be going about their business in a pretty normal way. I haven't noticed any of them carrying rifles or walking around dressed like B-movie Communist revolutionaries...

I think this is probably (hopefully) after the act posing by these nuts. I know nothing of Aztlan but if they are a real group they have put a gun to their own heads even if they didn't start the fires.

DAR (answerer #1) makes a good point about the link being misspelled, however, if you follow it, it takes you to what appears to be a genuine CNN site, which you can navigate through. I imagine that could be linked somehow to a bogus beginning but it does seem fishy.

well they suspected that it was arson, but why a group that is part of the massive amounts of people that want to stay here in the country? This only will add fuel to the fire to expel these people from this country and tighten borders more quickly, and add to the anti-illegal immigrant cause more so. Not to mention anger a lot of people and put some in harms way that are here legally. I don't get it!

Oh, Great! That's all we need...a war with our next-door-neighbors. As if some people don't hate Mexicans enough already. Do they have real proof of this? It could be faked.
Edit: It is fake! How can people be so vile? The ones that faked that news are probably the same ones responsible for the fires. I hope they're caught soon!

I have suspected that all along as a retalliation for not passing the stupid Dream Act. If this is any indication of the caliber of people that we refused, and I think it is, I can't wait for all of them to be deported. It's as sick as those illegals that stole the supplies for the people that were burnt out and tried to sell them. We knew it was arson but I've said all along that these illegals were a different form of terrorist! I want them all gone even if they didn't set the fire. I will want more of a concrete conclusion before I can say that I am sure of this though! People with no respect for our nation or our people are capable of anything.

Didn't Cnn report that they were the first that found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, or at least to go along with the lies and misdirection that placed us in a war with Iraq.

Lets wait until all the facts are in before we believe what a digitally enhanced picture and a rambling rant has to say.

The two 'umbrella' nations created were La Gran Raza (The Great Race or Nation) and La Gran Familia (The Great Family). In the chart to the right, this alliance is illustrated. Keep in mind that not all Mexican street gangs are members of this alliance and the alliance may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Sources state that each nation is also affiliated with a powerful Mexican Prison Gang. La Gran Raza is alleged to be affiliated with La Eme (The Mexican Mafia) and La Gran Familia is alleged to be affiliated to Nuestra Familia.

Mexican street gangs on the East Coast have taken on similar traits to other street gangs. Initially, these gangs were social in nature and seldom interacted with other groups unless they were involved in heavy drinking binges. Their structure was loose-knit. Today these gangs are more like their American counterparts. Leadership roles are usually assumed by the most violent member of the gang who assigns the second in command who in turn issues orders to the soldiers. The leader is called "Mero Mero" which means Chief or Godfather. These gangs, which started with victimization of their own people and other Mexican gangs, have slowly developed, in some cases, into drug dealing gangs.

I want to look behind this one. I can't think of anything more likely to create 'anti illegal immigrant feeling' than that. And your web link has cnn HEADLIENE news. Is that how the official web page is spelled, or do you think it might be a fake one?

If this is true, this is the end of MEChA politicians in this state, as a small part of the backlash you can expect.

I need to research it, though.

Iwasnota...(below) yeah, but if you go to cnn.com you can't link TO this and their wildfire page doesn't have this story. And if you put cnn headline news into your browser you get the regular cnn.com web page. I'm withholding judgment at the moment but can't find this story in the regular news search.

If these "aztlan separatist" do prove to be responsible, the death penalty is appropriate.
All their funds & properties should be forfeited to the state.
Any illegal aliens found during the investigation should be immediately deported after they pay any appropriate fines & fees.

The site is a fraud. There is nothing on cnn linking to any story about anyone taking responsibility.

It's a scam site
