Some states have a mandatory 80% time served before release.
Since you didn't say where you are, it could be as high as 8 years, and in a state that has overcrowded prisons that offers parole for good behavior, it could be a little as 3 years depending on the crime committed and your behavior inside.

It really depends on the state and the county that you were tried and convicted in. I know here in the state of NY, an individual with that paticular type of sentence, NY would make you do 3/4 of that sentence but, you would have to be a "model inmate" and do as you are told. Isn't that Thanksgiving Day ? Idk. A holiday ? But, in any event you could do 3 1/2 to 5 years on 8 or 5 1/2 to 7 on 10. And that's an educated guess.

Youi are unlikely to be granted parole on your first application but there is at the moment early release after about haalf the sentance is completed due to overecrowding but under thew old schemr with remissin you would be released (subject to good conduct) after two thirds of you sentance was served. That is between 5 years and four months and 6 years and eight months

really, it's going to depend on the charge and how you act inside. consider, if you got a mandatory minimum, you will have to do most of that time. or, in some cases, you could be up for parole in under three years.
take some classes and keep your sh*t together.

You have only given a very brief bit of information.... How about you let me know this:
What is your charge?
What is your prior record?
What state do you live in?
Although no one here can give you EXACT answers........ with this information I can at least make an educated guess at what you score out to for sentencing and what your chances of parole would be.

Talk to the probation department or your attorney. I hope you use the time to educate yourself to a better life. Don't, please don't become one of the statistics of going back in as soon as you get out. Good luck and take care of yourself. Come out a better person.
