I met this dude, and he's 14, surprisingly, despite how he acts and how tall he was. I'm 16, almost 17, and he really likes me and I sorta have a soft spot for him. But I think I like him in a friendship sorta way, you know? But I don't know... I don't want to hurt his feelings, nor do I want to go to jail, lol... help, please? =(

You are both under 18, so there is no crime in dating him.
Once you turn 18, and UNTIL he turns 18, the law changes for you.
If his parents wanted to, they could file unlawful sex charges against you (assuming, of course that you are having sex).

If you only feel friendship for him, tell him.
Be honest and up front about your feelings, whatever they may be.

Pedophile

A pedophile is an individual whose primary sexual orientation is for children. Quite literally the word pedophilia means love ("-philia") for children ("pedo-"). In the field of psychology, a pedophile is considered to have paraphilia, or a psychosexual disorder. In the field of law, a pedophile is not a criminal unless s/he acts on their desires for children. When a pedophile does act on his or her feelings or desires, they may be committing acts of child sexual abuse or molestation, child exploitation, child pornography, incest, kidnapping, statutory rape, or the prostitution of minors.

A pedophile often prefers the company of children to the company of adults and desires time spent with children doing child-appropriate activities. A pedophile may be married to, or date people who have children in their desired age range. A pedophile may have been the victim of sexual abuse themselves as a child. A pedophile may derive satisfaction from children in a number of ways: some stop at looking, others take pictures and watch children, and still others require more contact to satisfy their desires

Any sexual act that involves a minor and an adult is unlawful.

Depends on the laws in your state, here since you are both under age there would not be any charges against either.
If you are within 2 years the age of the younger, under age person that is also legal, so here you are in the clear.

If it is real, it will last a couple of months, until it is level and legal. Would you spend 14 months of your future on eternal happipenis? How about 15-20? or with good behavior...

Develop the friendship until he's at least 17.

Go out with him!!
It's not an offence to date someone younger, however, it is an offence to take part in ANY sexual acts with someone below the age of consent.
Good luck =]

You aren't old enough to get involved in a sexual relationship. Wait until you are at least 30.
