My left shin has been hurting for 7 weeks now, starting as a small ache in the beginning of cross country season. But now, it hurts like crazy, even if I'm only walking. The pain is so bad, that I'm limping half of the time, or walking on my tiptoes on my left foot, because it hurts more to put my whole weight on it. Running and jumping are especially worse, and even if it gets better while I continue to run, it becomes excruiciatingly painful when I stop. Is there anything I can do to help ease the pain?

If it hurts when you are not using the leg it may be a stress fracture rather than shin splints.
Whatever it is it has become chronic and you need to see a doctor.
I don't think anything you can do other than not using your leg for a month or so is going to help.

i have shin splints right now bad so i feel your pain. the only thing that can be done for them is to rest, rest, rest, and take some anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen. If you do not rest and take something, this will result in stress fractures. Trust me, you do not want to go down that road

EDIT// and as the person below me said, if it has been that way for seven weeks now, it may have already turned into stress fractures. good point

Ice baths. stretch ur feet...I had these-first you need to stop running for about a week then your going to do stretches. you have to keep your leg still, but you want to move your feet side to side. dont move your leg or else it won't work. you should feel a stretch where ur shin is you can also put a belt around ur foot pull it and then rotate ur foot from side to side. these should help if you do them correct. Next, you should stretch ur calf muscles. stand next to a wall and push ur foot against it trying to get it straight with the wall. Do these before your run/ jumping and make sure you ICE. thats the most important part. ice after for about 20 minutes off and on. good luck

SEVEN WEEKS ????? You big dummy !!!!!

A sportsmedicine physician is your only answer. The more you do on a damaged leg is just doing more damage. GET IT TREATED.
