what is the average length of a pro course. 7000 yards? more? less? longest? shortest?

I'd say the average would be around 7,200. Of course each year they lengthen them to compensate for the players hitting the ball longer. My guess for the shortest would be one of the courses they play on during the Bob Hope in Palm Springs. The longest ever was Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. It was over 7,500 yards when they held the PGA Championship there in 2004.

Courses used by the PGA tour range anywhere from 6750 yards to over 7400 yards with the median close to the 7000 yard range. Doglegs, bunkering, water and forest can make the shorter course the most difficult . The Masters held in Augusta is a prime example of a shorter course being "Tiger proofed" by lengthening and bunkering.
