White distilled vinegar is only useful as a cleaner. It is edible, but I wouldn't eat it my self. I keep white vinegar only for cleaning. Similar to white vinegar in color but much more pleasant to eat is white wine vinegar, rice vinegar, or cider vinegar.

When I was a kid, we used it as a science experiment. If you place an uncooked egg in a glass of white vinegar and leave it for a few days, the vinegar will eat the shell and you will have the yoke is a squishy sort of pouch that is actually quite tough so you can handle it well. My son makes bottle rockets per source:

Well since this is a cooking category, I use vinegar for a nice marinade for chicken. Take 1/2 teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, oregano, parsley & black pepper. Mix with 3 tablespoons of white vinegar & 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Marinate for at least 2 hours before grilling or baking.......Goes good on pork as well!!

i use white vinegar for a variety of things.
mixing sweet and sour sauces, on my french fries, pickling recipes, a splash when mixing up tuna, for mixing with mayo and cucumbers and onions for a cucumber salad, or just cucumbers soaked in vinegar, making a veggie salad that calls for equal parts of vinegar, sugar and oil, i use it on fish of any kind (although sometimes i use lemon juice), making your own oil and vinegar vinegrette salad dressing...um i am sure there is more, but that all i can think of right off top of my head, and yes i use it for cleaning as well

I use white vinegar to make an assortment of flavored vinegars........garlic, pepper, rosemary, tarragon. White does not clash with the flavor you are trying to obtain. I use old whiskey bottles for this.

I like white vinegar on Brussels sprouts, green beans, and cauliflower. It doesn't take much - but it enhances the flavor.

White vinegar is a petroleum biproduct :( I only use it for cleaning. For cooking look for apple cider vinegar that says that it is made from real apple juice not petroleum. It also works well for laundry.
