I budget 200 dollars a year for vet (barring any accidents of illnesses)
About 30 dollars a month for food so that's 360 dollars a year
My dogs insurance is about 125 dollars a year

Its a difficult question to answer because you can't predict what vet bills you will have. If your dog has no other health issues, you can get away with an annual exam and shots, a heartworm test every other year and regular heartworm meds throughout the year, and a good flea treatment. One of the first answerers says they budget $200 a year for vet bills and this would be a good response if only the basics were needed. What you can't predict is what other illnesses/injuries you will have to treat. A week after I adopted one of my dogs, I had to spend over $300 at the vet on x-rays and stitches when he injured his leg. It was certainly not something I had anticipated, but it happened and if I'd budgeted $200 for the year - well, that would have been out the window in the first week!

Food - that can vary so much. You can buy cheap dog food at Walmart for under $10 for a 40lb bag, or your can buy a good quality food and spend $40 for the same sized bag. And how long it takes to go through 40lbs also depends on the size, age and activity level of the dog! Just remember - you get what you pay for. That cheap food might save you on your food bill but end up increasing your vet bills if it does not keep your dog healthy.

Insurance - sorry - don't know the answer on this one. As insurance usually does not cover the annual exams/shots, its debatable whether you need it. If you do have it, your dog will probably be healthy his whole life. If you don't have it and something happens, you'll wish you had. Murphy's law.

It's hard to say. I have 2 large breed dogs.
I spend $40-$60 a month for food. I add chicken and rice to their food 1x/day-- approx $8 per month. Annual vet with no mishaps or other circumstances $200. Bones and treats $40+ per month. Weekly training $50. leashes, bowls and other Incidentals ????? Spending time with my babies PRICELESS.

This year, I'd say about $1000+ in vet bills.

About $50/month for food + about $20/month on toys/treats

I'm not sure about insurance, as I don't have it.
