... so ... when I asked him if he existed 10 years ago (right before I became an atheist), am I justified by you believers in taking his silence as a "No" ?

If that's how you choose to see it, I'm not sure why (or even if ) you are looking for validation of that here...

Believe in whatever you believe if that makes you a better person and a peaceful one. If you are at peace with believing that there is no God, then that is where you are supposed to be and Yes, his answer was that he's not there ...Maybe it's because you don't need him or maybe it's because you can't hear him or maybe you are here to learn on your own....but that doesn't mean he's not there for others.

I believe that there is a higher power and for the sake of simplicity, I call him God or Father or Spirit but that doesn't mean you have to.

EDIT - and to Jacob A - how can you say that it wasn't a prayer just because it doesn't fit into your little box of what a prayer should be? and time you talk with God or try to talk with Him, it is a prayer.

Prayers are "Legal Contracts" given to GOD by Mankind That Allow GOD to Help People in the Earth's System---that Adam Kicked GOD "Legally" out of.

Where talking legal.
If you own your car Legally, and by legal contract, you GIVE your Neighbor 100 percent "Legal Authority" OVER your Car---Then YOU have to ask your Neighbor if you can Drive it or even Wash it--EVEN THOUGH YOU STILL OWN it.
If your Neighbor says "NO", then Legally, he can have you Arrested if you Try to Drive it AFTER he tells you No, you cannot drive it.

Right? Legally?

GOD gave Mankind 100 Percent Authority over the Earth for 6,000 Years.
Then Adam kicked GOD out of it (ate from the Tree) Legally.

Now, we have to Help GOD do good things in the Earth, by Praying those Legal Contracts!

Strange, isn't it?

um well you can't just say" oh i never heard God giving me an answer...that must mean he doesn't exist.." believing in God is about having faith that He exists...if u asked Him if He exists, how do u know that He was silent? it could also be that u weren't listening...i have the same problem also,...it's hard to know wen God is talking to you but for me, i don't always hear God talking directly to me...i "hear" Him through other people or songs or different experiences...look around u...can't u see Him through life? the world keeps turning, things keep living, ...that's one way i know that God exists...another is through personal experiences that have happened to me...just with things that happened that i know didn't JUST HAPPEN..u know?...oh also i hear God through the Bible...i know it's hard to only seem to get silence , but sometimes it's not hearing Him through just talking...it's seeing things happen that prove he exists...hope this helps...:) and i know for a fact that God does exist

He is revealing Himself to you every day, in ways you are just allowing yourself to be blinded to. The only prayer of a non-believer God hears is "I repent and please save me." Until you pray that in faith believing, He doesn't hear or answer your prayers.

Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

Proverbs 28:9
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Why should God prove himself personally to you when He has already done enough to prove Himself to so many other people. Since you refuse to believe everyone else, you would not believe it if God appeared and told you who he was. You would probably ask to see the name on his driver's license.

His silence means that you really do not believe in Him. If you do not believe in Him, He will not answer if

God has left the planet is why prayers aren't answered. The "gods" actually instead of god. We got our human ways from them. Jealousy, murder and so on. Yep. We have a lot to thank them for.
The gods must be crazy is one of the truest statements I have ever heard. All too human to be gods.

Im atheist aswell and have asked the same thing, I was told that "god" wants you to find the answer in your heart. If he answered you it would be an absolute yes that he is real, supposedly its your responsibility to answer it to yourself.
