i would venture to guess that your depression is due in part to something other than just the alcohol. alcohol is a depressant but not to such an extent that you should feel despondent the next day unless there is already an underlying problem. alcohol can great exxaggerate your depression but i have never seen a patient that had sever depression simply from drinking. getting drunk is a symptom of depression (self-medication) and can feedon itself. the worse you feel, the more you drink, so the worse you feel, so the more you drink, etc etc etc. try talking to your family doctor and be honest about it. i'll garauntee you that they've heard worse and will be very understanding. they're the best resource for determining what is the next best step for you.

Yes it's due to the booze

Have a look at what you drank and see if you could change anything - either by drinking less or by drinking weaker or non-alcoholic drinks.

It should be possible to go out and let your hair down without feeling like that the next day.

In drinking excess alchol , firstly you go on a high and reach a peak (that's when you should stop) but more often than not we don't recognise this.... then it's down hill all the way , it's then... it rapidly becomes a depressant. I must confess that I did it... we all did it (or some still do it). Most of the time people dive into the drink to forget 'reality'.... Drunkeness causes more trouble than it worth... it's a poison.

In the long term alcohol acts like a depressant. When you drink, the alcohol replaces the feel-good hormones your body releseases. If you keep drinking, the body stops making the hormones, cause it's easier for it to use the alcohol instead. That way you need to drink more and more to feel good and when you're sober, you're depressed and the more you drink, more depressed you get.

Oh yes alcohol is a depressant. When you're drinking it you might feel great but the next day is when the depression hits. Beware though because I thought I drank because I was depressed but it was the booze that was making me depressed. x

yes. alcohol is a deppresant. At first, when you drink alcohol you feel buzzing, but after a few hours, the effects wear off, and it brings you lower than you were before you had a drink. Depending on the amount of alcohol you drink, the effects could last for days

In a word - yes! If booze makes you feel like this then moderate your intake or just don't drink at all.

Alcohol does make you depressed, but mainly its side effects are what make you unwell

People who drink, drink to numb their emotions in the first place.

Yes, generally - for the reasons already said.

However, it does depend on what alcohol I drink and if I am in company or not.
