I have been throwing up alot today. But my stomach feels more stronger and I can sit up now. I haven't eaten anything all day and its approachind dinner time. Is there any food or drink that I can take without throwing it up? I think I got most of the junk in my stomach gone, because last time I "puked" nothing came out. Help??

[Can I drink water as well?]

Lauryn, whether it's officially the flu, or some other illness, this is safe.

The BRAT diet.

B for bananas
R for cooked rice, plain pasta, soda crackers, toast and other simple white-flour carbohydrates
A for applesauce and Popsicles
T for hot tea or other clear liquids like bouillon, chicken noodle soup, clear juices, etc.

Avoid all dairy products; all fats and oils (butter, mayonnaise, peanut butter); fiber like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables; and spices except for salt to taste. This gets boring but will help calm the digestive tract, no matter which end of it is in greater distress.

Next up, hydrate. This means you drink clear liquids, any kind except alcohol, a lot. Tea is nice. So is ice water, flavored water, Gatorade (clear ones only), 7-Up, and especially ginger ale, which settles nausea quite well. (If bubbles bother you, pour your carbonated beverage from one glass to another and back again a few times.)

Hope you feel better soon.

The best thing you can drink right now is Gatorade or a similar sports drink (NOT an "energy drink," though). That will help replace the electrolytes you lose when you throw up, and especially if you've had diarrhea. Even if you throw it right back up, your body will have retained some of it, and that will help keep you hydrated. If you feel like eating, you're probably past the worst of it. Try something like dry toast or saltines; you might also try Jello (although you should stay away from RED Jello, on the off chance that you are bleeding in your stomach [NOT LIKELY AT ALL but just in case] - it could mask fresh blood). If that stays down, then just take it slowly until you get back to your usual diet.

You need to get fluids in your system. You can drink ginger ale, water and apple or white grape juice. Things you can eat are chicken broth, chicken noodle soup, saltine salted or unsalted. Also a baked or boiled potato. Just take small amounts of the food. So that you don't upset your stomach again. And get plenty of rest.Toast is good too. Hope you feel better.

The most important thing to do is drink lots of water. If you have to eat try crackers with peanut butter. The protein in the peanut butter will help with the nausea. the crackers will give you carbs and absorb the acid in your stomach. The salt in both will help you not be dehydrated. Trust me. But make sure your drinking water. Ginger ale is good to. Ginger is a natural cure for nausia and stomach pain.

the best thing is to try to stay on a clear liquid diet for 24 hrs. this gives the stomach time to recover. then go to a creamy type liquid diet for a few meals, then soft mushy foods for a few meals, then back to a regular diet. the problem with irritation in the stomach is that it takes awhile for it to "settle down" afterwards. we advise our patients to drink tons of water and fruit juice, get lots of rest, no stenuous activities, motrin for fevers, and try a liquid diet for a day or two. there really isn't much you can do for the flu except let it run it's course. there was a study a few years back that show chicken soup really does speed to healing process and get you back on your feet quicker. i always tell my patients "what can it hurt unless you're allergic".

What is wrong actually? Have you seen a doctor ? If not, See him ASAP ! Depends on what makes you throw out. If you just having a indigestion, then you could start with just water first, then, slowly go to fluid diet to more solid later on as you can tolerate. The doctor can advice you on this. He knows better as he know the cause.

Gatorade is good to drink when you've been throwing up a lot and tea. Toast and light soup to eat.

Dry toast would be the best idea to absorb the acid in your tummy and it should stay down and make you feel a lot better. and yes, lots of water!
