militarily -it may well militarize the Shiite population of the World against the US and west for a start.
this of course includes the mahdi army of Southern Iraq and the Hizbullah of Lebanon. The latter having mastered a highly effective methods of asymmetrical warfare which they used brilliantly against the IDF in the 2006attempted Israeli invasion. There is bound to be lessons exchanged between the two brethren forces .
all this is within a week
diplomatically-- just say China, Russia, increasing isolation for the US in the world
Economically -price of oil, pressures already massive could topple world over in global meltdown .
Environmental-- radiological weaponry and DU will make a permanent impact.
humanitarian - casualties in the 10,000s to begin with Iraq again at least. etc
.......................by week two......

I wonder if this is a serious question ?
I sincerely hope not. Iran is a totally different problem from Iraq. If the USA decided to invade or attack Iran, I believe it would be the end of the world as we know it. The efforts of al Qaeda so far will seem like a tea party compared to what might happen. I believe that nowhere in the West would be considered safe from extreme terrorism, which would be impossible to stop.
As one person has said, bend over and kiss everything goodbye !!!

they already started to open it with Iraq so yes , it would further push the lid off and release the 7 griefs (or whatever was in there). think about it, if the US went into Iran there basis would be? nuclear weapons, which would raise the question would they dare go into other countries via force, that possess nuclear weapons? the US says they have ties with Russia and that's true however those ties are being strained partly because of Putin himself. They would then push further and go into other countries like N. Korea (who is 'peaceful and accommodating to UN envoys'? the push into Iran would pose the question 'where and when will it end?' the tyranny that is. granted that Iran has few international ties, besides those that are Muslim nations, but there will still be option based on the a fore mentioned question.

Considering Russia just had a terrorist attack of their own today, they just might help out.
No country sitting on all that oil needs nuclear energy. They're after nukes and the destruction of Israel.
They are too hot headed and unstable to have that kind of destructive power.
It will be quick and decisive.Their nukes will be broken and they will yell and scream at the US for doing it.They'll then go into Iraq and really raise the roof. But hey, they've been in Iraq for years now anyway.

Iraq couldn't beat Iran in many years of war supported by the US..
The US are still struggling with Iraq.
Iran has friends in Russia.
The US would lose many more lives of soldiers barely out of school.
Only a fool would suggest an attack on Iran. Hopefully the American public will stop their government from making such a foolish and pointless attack.

The effect of the militarily most powerful country in the world attacking a developing country with a rag-tag army? Well the immediate outcome is a foregone conclusion - just like what happened in Iraq. The long term ones are less predictable. It will probably galvanise the muslim countries and remind them of Bush and Tony Blair's concept of a clash of civilisations. Whether muslims will then take to guerrilla tactics of a global kind is a question we have to bear in mind. They probably will because any all out war will result in their defeat. If it happens, then I think the west will seriously consider internment of the muslim populations in the countries that have large number of muslims. Not something one would advocate or like to see, but one that may be used by the govts to maintain security. Something like Guantanamo, but one a huge scale. It may eventually lead to large scale deportations and global segregation - muslims and the rest. It will resemble the Crusades, but enacted in the 21th century. Not the church against the muslims, but the secular govts against the muslims in their midst. Gloomy, but quite probable.

Russia would defend Iran and we would face another cold war.
Meh. =(
I supported the Iraq war, it was necessary to remove a genocidal dictator. But what can the world accomplish from this? If the UN ensures the nuclear developments are not used to create weapons then there should be nothing to worry about...

Complete chaos in the Middle East. 50 years of further terrorism.
Look how it turned out for Israel with their aggression and pre-emptive strikes. Israelis have been at war since the day they were created.
Besides which, Iran hasn't done anything. It's all Republican Bull-sh--t.
Bombing Iran would be a disaster.
So I'm sure Bush will do it, because he is "Mr. Disaster".

Hopefully we won't find out. I know Russia backs Iran and most likely will attack the US if the US attacked Iran. Who knows WW III could start up.
