not like the plauques you see, like fine art that is framed at an art gallery. Deep poetry with art that has even more depth.

There has been for years a form of poetry that combines art of sorts. It's called 'performance art.' Although it is popular among the more artsy types in larger cities I only know of two performance artists (an American named Laurie Anderson and a Canadian named Meryn Cadell) who have actually been able to make a living from performance art.

As to combining poetry with more traditional art (like painting and sculpture) I really wish there were a market for it. As of now there hasn't been. But you never know what the future holds. Who would have thought that a small, simple novel about a seagull would have become an international best-seller back in the 80s? Or who could have imagined years before it happened that a little smiling face in a yellow circle would have become a national icon?

The point I'm making is that IT COULD HAPPEN, with the right art, the right poetry and the right timing. It will all be about the marketing.

I'm also thinking the effort would be much more powerful if both the painter and the poet were the same person. Of course, this would take a very talented person who could appeal to the public on many levels.

I think there is significant marketing value in it. I think it's a great idea. I love poetry and I love art and millions of people do too. Alot of people tend to think that poetry is dead but its very much alive. Face it every time you pick up a greeting card, a catchy t-shirt, or think of the most memorable commercial you know, it involves some sort of poetry and the visual at the same time. I say go for it and best wishes to you!!!

Poetry IS an art. . . and food for the soul. Combined with visual art. . . more senses experience the poetry. So, yes, I would think their is a market for poetry and visual art.

Hi,

Could you be more specific ?
What ideas run in your mind ?
I don't know what kind of art you make.
But you could open a Cafepress or Zazzle store and place your poetry there together with other art that you may do.
Or you could design your own apparel or have your poems on mintgloves, blankets and alikes.
You can also try a site like Lulu (there's another one I can't remember) where you can have your own book made.

Kind regards,

José

I combine my poetry and sometimes my HAIKU with my art...in mediums of acrylic painting and digital design. Poetry is NOT dead...(to those who don't appreciate it--maybe it is)

Try it for yourself and see how it goes.

I hate to say it but poetry is a lost art. Not many people give a crap and I don't know anybody who would pay for it.
