I am a freshman in high school who wasnt serious about running until this year. I improved from a 15 minute 1.5 mile to a 17:42 minute 3 mile, so i am willing to do whatever it takes to improve. i have a great oppurtunity right now to begin that improvement with a long offseason coming up. what can i do to drastically improve my 17:42 3 mile. My goal is about 16 minutes. i have until next fall to do this. thanks for the help everyone!

Don't jump right into extreme improvements, try to take it slow, maybe cutting off 10 seconds each time you time yourself. Also, try running longer distances in between to help build up endurance. Then work on short, quick sprinting drills to increase your speed.

wekk your most likely not going to drop a minute and 42 seconds off your time. im a freshman in highschool and i recently just ran a 16:32 5k. what surface did you run that 17:42 on?
