for example the other day i was driving home from work and i was pulled over. the cop walked up to my car shining the light in my eyes and saying you know you have a tail light out i said no i did not. he asked where i was headed i said home, he said well just get it fixed, i said can i get out and look at my light,, (knowing full well i had no tail light out) he said wait till i leave and jumped in his car,, i jumped out and checked it before he could leave and asked him how it was out,, he had the nerve to say ell it must have just came back on,,and sped off to go harass someone else,, i was in a nice neighberhood(mine) nice car, busy street, only 11 p.m., did not violate any traffic laws, at least he did not ever mention any.it just seemed to me he was fishing to get his quota up... now is that policing or bad business by a bully,, now i am not ranting im serious this is not legal nor is it right yet it happens every day all over the place,,and than police get mad when we complain.

I would love to comment on serious and well thought out questions in the areas and topics you mention... and I never, ever get mad or call names.

But, that said.... if you were to actually READ the "questions" people post... they are nothing more then rants and accusations. It is not a question.

Lets give you an example:

Here would be a perfect question:

"In police work what kind of use of force training do you get and how does it show you what escalation of force to use in a situation".

Perfectly valid question and I have answered many like that...

But, here is what you will normally see:

"Why are all the police beating honest citizens and lying about it? Is it just so they can up their arrest stats or is it that they are all worse than any criminal they have ever put in to a jail?

See, the rant is nothing more than someones rant with no fact or even a question... Its meant to inflame, not gain knowledge or insight.

And you should also remember that I can bet you that only 1 in 10 of the people on here claiming to be real police are. You can tell by the trash they talk. They are some weird-0 wanna be that is also just here to spew hate. So, if some one sends you an email they could say there are the President. Don't make it so.....

I have been doing this job for a very long time. I have seen a lot. I have a sick feeling at so many of these questions and answers I see.

I do the best I can everytime I post to inform.... unless it is a question that is just completly a lie or trash... That, I try to respectfully point out to the poster in my answer.

Cops have to deal with some real idiots every day. Just think about it, the majority of people they encounter and arrest are bad seeds rather than model citizens so if you put yourself in their shoes you must admit they do a hell of a good job for the most part. I am not saying all cops are great people because even cops will admit that just like in any area of life there are good and bad. Ask their wives/husbands and kids about knowing their spouse or father is out there putting their life on the line every day in the line of duty. All I'm saying is give credit where credit is due. Most of these people in those positions don't do it because the pay is great, it's because they know how important the job is and they feel a sense of fulfillment at the end of the day, if their day ends without injury or death. I think any human being would have a tendency to get upset when they have to endure slurs coming from idiots that only want to hear their pea brains rattle when they spout off.
PS.... No I'm not a cop, just someone that respects their efforts and sacrifices.

I have read the responses that everyone has written, and I have to say, that most of the people that respond have little or no knowledge of Police work. Police don't work on a quota, we don't get more money for writing more tickets, and we don't enjoy using force. Most of us want to do our job, do it well, and go home at the end of the day. The Officer you encountered, pulled you over to check out your situation. You have to understand, its our job to be inquisitive. We are trying to stop crime before it starts. He was probably wondering what you were doing driving through that particular neighborhood at night. If you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. If kids would stop dressing like gang bangers and hanging around gang bangers, they wouldn't arouse so much suspicion about themselves. There is an old saying, "if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then its a duck". What that means is, if you look like a gang banger, hang out where your not supposed to be, act suspicious, destroy other peoples property, then the Police will probably stop you to ask you questions. If you don't want the Police stopping you, while you wear your baggy clothes, acting like your hard core, then stay home. You won't get arrested or questioned on the street, if your not on the street.

I think the kind of termperment that draws people into the law enforcement--authoritarian, regimented work force, the legal use of force, seeing the worst of society daily , paid to bully and act big, and were usually bullied when young or had an overbearing mother or father etc. There are good cops around but many really have lousy personalityies and that's why they are cops. I know. I worked in the field. Many lie and on the stand (personal experience see it as a jurist) they also cover up crimes (see rampart stories), many are serious womanizers and cheat all the time, I dated some and went to a bar where they hung out and a friend who personally knew all of them that were there, pointed out that 99% were married but looking for action anyway. Ugh!. LIke I say it's based my own history with them. you have rights and the cops must use the legal means to search and arrest without uneccessary force. Still many think they have the power to be a dick with a badge.

I rarely get mad about people misunderstanding of Police work. However, a lot of what gets labeled as brutality (i.e. the University of Florida Taser incident) is not. No real Police Officer condones criminal activity. No matter if the offender is a regular Joe and especially if it is another officer.

I don't tell my doctor his job and I don't care for non-officers telling me when I should write a ticket, make an arrest, or use force.

Well it depends which state your in, in Delaware, I got arrested for taking a half-smoked cigg from an ash tray! This is because the cops there have a qouta and the more people they arrest, the more money they get, A lot of cops out there are bitches, you just have to deal with them, after all, some of them do try and make this country a better place

Because not all cops are brutal or racist. You are labeling them in a way that puts them down in the eyes of others. These people risk their lives everyday to keep citizens safe, and yet all people talk about is how a few bad cops use excessive force. If you were more sympathetic, they wouldn't be cursing you out.

SERIOUS NOW.

I HAVE NEVER RESPONDED WITH NAME CALLING OR WRONGFUL ACCUSATIONS SO THE COPS ON HERE ARE TO YOU GENERALIZED?

HOW DO YOU KNOW HE WAS A COP THAT E MAILED YOU?

HIDE BEHIND BADGES?

HIDING BEHIND THE INTERNET? YOU HAVE THE SITE E MAILED TOO YOU REPORT IT AS FLAGRANT?

SO WHY DO THEY GET SO MAD BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT'S TRUE?
WHAT IS TRUE THAT I SHOULD KNOW?

I HAVE NOT MISUSED MY BADGE OR POWER AND HAVE BEEN ATTACKED FIRST BEFORE DROPPING THE SUSPECT TO THE GROUND. YOU MAKE THE MOVE THEN CHECK MATE.
I HAVE HAD TO USE DEADLY FORCE TWICE IN 42 YEARS OF SERVICE AND NEVER REGRETTED DOING SO. (THOUGH I DID WAKE UP ASKING MYSELF WHY?)
IT WAS EITHER HE SHOT ME AND I DIED OR I KILLED HIM. SOME OPTION HUH? GUESS I HID BEHIND MY BADGE THEN?

They're overworked, underpaid and under a lot of stress 24/7. A lot of police officers are putting their lives on the line every single day. No wonder they get agressive.

First, before I answer...
Whats up with "CAPS LOCK BOY?"

Ouch my eyes....My eyes>>>>><<<<

There is a little button on the left of the keyboard that says "Caps Lock"...Move the badge and you will find it..

Now.....
Didnt you know that being always right is a cop prerequisite?...
The attitude is issued with the badge....

And "police" work is just a business....
They are there to create revenue for the jusisdiction....Meanwhile trying their best to ignore real crimes because there is more money in traffic fines or stealing privite property thru the "Drug war" smokescreen....
