I do not have any type of ancestry in Italy. My parents were both born in the U.S. as was I. I am simply intersted in relocating my residence to Italy.
How do I obtain Italian Citizenship? Do I have to relinquish my U.S. Citizenship? Can I hold Dual Citizenship?
What process must I go through?

If it means anything, I am independently employed and do not intend on working with any company in Italy.
How long am I allowed to reside in Italy before I have to seek citizenship?

You could be allowed to live in Italy indefinetely without being an Italian citizen even if you don't work in Italy, as long as you can prove you can keep yourself and you have a place of residence.
If you don't have any connection with Italy, you have to live ten years in Italy, then you can apply for citizenship. Or marry an Italian citizen and live six months in Italy or wait two years if living outside.
Italian-American dual citizenship is possible. I heard somebody saying US don't allow that, but that's not actually true, although if some issue may be rised, it more likable it'd be from US and not from Italy.

Apply for a job in Italy and when you have resided thereat for quite a long time, you can now apply for an Italian citizenship. You can have a dual citizenship if allowed by the US and Italy.

To immigrate to the U. S., you're able to desire to have a sponsor who's an instantaneous blood relative (discern, sibling or grownup toddler over 21) or companion who earns adequate to help you & grant a house for you. With this form of great form of hundreds of thousands of folk waiting in line for immigration visas, waits are long if the sponsor's petition is approved. E.g. if a sibling petitions for you, that is going to take a minimum of 11-12 years to get an immigration visa, and for some worldwide locations (e.g. Philippines) the wait is working approximately 23 years. the U. S. admits extra felony immigrants according to 3 hundred and sixty 5 days than something of the international mixed, yet hundreds of thousands (probable extra like hundreds of thousands) are attempting to immigrate! Over 31 million people are presently searching for paintings (no longer counting new felony immigrants, unlawful extraterrestrial beings, or foreigners searching for non everlasting employment visas). the real unemployment value is 22.5%. the U. S. has the optimum birthrate of any "developed" united states interior the international, and has no longer even generated adequate new jobs each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to soak up US-born entrants to the paintings stress. There are fewer jobs interior the U. S. now than there have been decrease back in 1998. real (inflation-adjusted) according to capita earnings is decrease back to 1968 ranges. in case you ever grew to become a naturalized US citizen, you would be entitled to precisely the comparable rights as the different citizen: the the final option to vote, and so on. and you'd be undertaking to all common jobs and duties people voters: serve on jury accountability, pay US earnings taxes on international earnings from all substances even if in case you reside interior the U. S. or no longer, and so on. felony immigrants (felony everlasting citizens, i.e. "eco-friendly card holder") have a great form of the comparable rights & duties as voters different than that non-voters will possibly no longer vote or carry optionally available government places of work. those rights are reserved for voters.

Better call some immigration attorneys. Look they will probably tell you over the phone, so if one jerks you around tell them yo will call back. Most want the story and then will tell you what to do and if they can help they want you to hire them. Most will talk t yo for nothing the first time and after that if needed you hire them, but make sure you get this right. Take care.

If you do not have ancestry in Italy, your only hope of being a citizen is to marry one. :-)
