And relationship does the ground have with other electrical components..

ground is a reference point in your circuit, where there will be no change in potential.

ie if you have Va - Vb where Vb = gnd then you have Va- gnd. now say that gnd is 0V than we know that if we were to measure Va - Vb or Va referenced to gnd we would always see Va since Va - 0 = Va.

Steve C's "It is the part of the circuit connected to a electron neutral place, like the grounding effect of the earth" is nonsense.

And perhaps Warren W can explain why he thinks that "It is the most critical part of any circuit!"

Now, there are two symbols which are called "ground". One of them is chassis and one of them is Earth. They are not necessarily, and very often are not, the same thing.

"Ground" is a word that millions of people use without thinking and often without understanding.

Ground is your reference point. It is the most critical part of any circuit!

Think of a water tower. If you use, as a reference, the pressure at the ground beneath the water tower, the pressure will be very high.

If you use, as a reference, the middle of the tank, you lose the benefit of the water below your reference, so you can see the point of reference is very important. In electronics, this point is called ground. Voltages can be above or below that point.

In the water example, if there is no water above the reference, then the water below the reference will cause a sucking action, or negative pressure.

it means Ov (of the power supply) or (mains) Earth
Quite often the same thing, but not necessarily so

It's especially where you DON'T WANT TO BE part of the circuit.

Okay- everyone who gave me thumbs down wants to be in the circuit between power and ground. Let me know when so I can bring my camcorder- this is gonna be great.
