Absolutely.
Just use

Your Honor,

I respectfully ....

then tell them you are sorry, what you intend to do to correct the problem
do you have family, church support and why you never will be in their court again.

Sincerely,

Word perfect it and see if you can call around to find the name. I don't know how that works. I saw mine first from jail and for a whole year until she dismissed the charges. She was rather angry at the State that day. :) Best of luck.
edit : Look at the ticket, your court date & place is on there... then call the Courthouse and ask if your case has been assigned a Judge yet. If all else fails have it ready when you appear. Be early, sharp, dress professional and stay attentive in the audience. They watch every move you do b4 you even get called !

Wink Public Defender I guess. They do nothing. That I learned the hard way. But you can... go make a difference.

Lets get this straight ur lawyer tell u you should write a letter to the judge because u were caught shop lifting n say what to the judge?I mean the lawyer did not help u in what u should at least say to the judge to get u started if not nice Lawyer u have there
n-ur no better u don't even know the judge's name something u can get from ur lawyer Hellooo!here what is wrong with this picture here.
I mean this just does not sound right so do not lay it all on ur lawyer ok but for u not to know the name of the judge u have to go in front of does not make any sense at all ur going to tell me u have not received any letters from the courts with the judge's name u will be going before which I would find very hard to believe any of us that has gone before a judge before including I know the name of the judge we would be standing before in regard to our case before we ever get to the court house u want to try this question again for us to answer.

My hubby is a LP Manager w/a retail chain and writing a letter to the judge will do you no good. Your lawyer must not understand shoplifting. The judge must follow through if the store wants charges pressed. If you still write on, address it to the store and apologize and all that crap. I have no sympathy for you cause you know right from wrong and till chose to do wrong.

Why would you want to testify against yourself?

If you did it, the judge will slap your wrist and you will learn your lesson.

If you are contrite, that can come across in your body language, without having to say or write anything incriminating, that will get you slapped on the wrist and maybe the face too.

Really, the first rule of all persuasive writing is to know what you are trying to accomplish, so what is the point of this letter?

How is it supposed to accomplish that goal as opposed to other possibilities?

Maybe you should read the story about the girl in Mcdonalds in Kentucky before you just blindly do what your lawyer says because he represents authority.

You have been warned.

:)

1) Your Honor:

2) Judge-----:

i was caught shoplifting month, date, 2007. i did a stupid thing and am truly sorry for what i did.

(if you do this quite often and have not been caught tell s/he you are a compulsive shoplifter(kleptomaniac) you cannot help yourself. You have been caught and have come to this rationalization. I need help, counseling.
If it would not be too much can the court recommend counseling for me in this matter.
