Jesus leaving Jerusalem was paramount to leaving the Jewish leadership in disbelief and denial. Plus, Jesus' ministry was originally based in Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. His followers from there who were not in Jerusalem probably heard the sad news of His death, and He would have gone to comfort them by revealing Himself alive to them, as He Himself had prophesied.
